Tech News for the Day, Friday, September 18

I don’t have much for the day, because I’m going away for the weekend, baby!

Now, here is the awesome thing, I actually have a post that will show up on Saturday, and it will be “controversial”. Yeah, I’m not getting enough hits.

Until then, here’s some stuff that I saw today that might be interesting.

Do you want an easy way to share files? You should check out the iTwin, coming soon.

If you like getting IM messages, then you might like getting them in the air with the IXP3 Internet Messaging Clock.

There is a new digital picture frame from HP that is so advanced, I don’t even think it should be called a digital picture frame. Enter the HP DreamScreen.

Tech News for the Day, Thursday, September 17

Some of you might be tired of these “Tech News for the Day” articles, which I’m sure that all of you have realized are just filler. Clearly, more original content is needed, don’t you agree?

Fortunately, I’m planning to get pretty serious about articles, but Tech News for the Day will probably a daily weekday posting. So if you like it, then just keep reading. If not, keep your eye out for more original stuff.

So, insert catchy intro here, Fujitsu has a Lifebook known as the T5010 that features a multitouch LCD.

Sony has a new DRC-BT30P Bluetooth headphone conduit.

LG is planning to put out the GW620, their first Google Android handset.

The Viliv S7 gets priced at Dynamism, something that has been long awaited.

Now here is something that I want, but is just too expensive: the Athena Sofa. It could be called a “smart couch” for lack of a better word, and I would love to crash on it for a night, or a month, for that matter.

A product that looks like it is perfect for swimmers who like to listen to music in the water. It’s the FINIS Next Generation SwiMP3 Player that uses bone conduction technology.

Lastly, Gyration has a motion controlled mouse called the Gyration Air Mouse Elite. It can be used in the air and on the table.

Tech News for the Day, Wednesday, September 16

For those interested in what’s new with advanced cameras, then you should read about the JVC HD Everio GZ-HM400.

SanDisk has announced the Extreme Pro, a memory card that has very fast speeds of 90 MB/second.

Have you ever given blood at a blood drive? Imagine if it was done by a robot. Enter…the Bloodbot! Yeah, I’m serious.

This Sungale lamp is sort of neat with its 3.5 inch screen, and it’s got a nice aesthetic, too.

My favorite story is about two M.I.T. students who managed to rig up a camera, weather balloon, and styrofoam cooler to create something that can take snapshots from space. Technically, it’s not from space, but it’s a better shot than I could have taken.

ClearPlay and do you need it?

ClearPlay is billed as “a revolutionary way for your family to enjoy movies”. As you can see from the video, it allows users the power to remove objectionable content from movies that they watch on a DVD player.

You have to get their DVD player in order to do this, but you can use DVDs that you rent or own. Then you have to insert the FilterStik into the USB port. Apparently, you need to download this filter based on the specific movie. Filters are obtained by forming a membership, and you will have unlimited access to their selection which includes filters for television and movies.

There is a rumor that Activision is planning on releasing Guitar Hero without a console. Curious? Read here for more info.

Here is something odd: a toilet paper roll that makes horror sounds. Yeah, check it out for laughs.

Is there a 3D era on the way or is it here already?

3D-glasses-404_675044cAt CES last January, I saw many terrific technologies on display, and I tried to look for trends in them. In my analysis I noticed a certain number and letter that kept reappearing: 3D.

Tech News for the Day, Monday, September 14

I’m planning to start the week off right with a little report on what is coming out.

For example, Toshiba’s JournE touch multimedia tablet. Looks cool, doesn’t it?

For those who are looking for the next exercise video game creation, look no further with the Domyos Interactive System.

Samsung has a new robot vacuum cleaner that could probably kick the Roomba’s dustbug with the Furot II.

Have you ever wanted a lock on your door that would email you when it is opened? Check out this one from the Kwikset.

Weekend Video Game Fix: Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

Staff_of_KingsWhile I was doing some shopping at a Fred Meyer, I saw Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings on sale for $19.99. I couldn’t believe it! This video game just came out. Apparently, it was not a big hit.

To paraphrase a line from Robocop: “Now I’d buy that for twenty dollars”. I figured it was worth trying. After all, I still remember Indy back in his 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark glory, something that faded after that last Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fiasco. Those of you who were disappointed at seeing aliens in that fourth Indy film should know that Indiana is back to finding religious artifacts again as the Staff of Kings is really the Staff of Moses.

See my full review here. I can’t really recommend the game, but if you are looking for a little action, this is a fun way to entertain yourself for a while. I’d recommend playing it with the Wii, then use the Nyko Action Pack.

The Miller Brothers release second book of the Hunter Brown Series

0811091314
I first met Christopher Miller a year ago at a Writer’s Convention. He and his brother Allan are authors, computer animators, but above all, they are men of faith.

The Miller brothers have written several books including their Heroes of the Faith series, and, most recently, the Hunter Brown series. I had a chance to read Hunter Brown and the Secret of the Shadow a few months ago, and I admired it. The book is fantasy mixed with Christian symbolism with a dash of Star Wars, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and other influences. I can’t wait to get started on Hunter Brown and the Consuming Fire, second in the Hunter Brown series.

Tech News for the Day, Friday, September 11

Hello, everyone. I suppose I could wish everyone a happy Patriot’s Day, but that just doesn’t sound like a holiday that you put “happy” in front of.

Well, hey, that was an awkward intro, but here is the lastest in technology for today.

If you like PMPs (Portable Media Players) that are not iPod by nature, you might want to check out the Philips GoGear Muse 16GB PMP.

Those of you who want a webcam that is compatible with a PC and the PS3 should look into the Elecom UCAM-DLC300T webcam series.

The JVC LT-32WX50 is an LCD HDTV that is only a quarter inch thick.

Yo quero Packard Bell with the oneTwo L and oneTwo M all-in-one PCs with touchscreen capacity.

I am proud to say that my next video transmissions will be with a webcam. (We can get rid of the awkward turning on and off the camera scenes from the vids.) Check out the Eyeball from Blue Microphone, and the video, too.

Those that love the gaming headsets may want to check out the AX PC Pro by Tritton Technologies!

An finally, let’s talk about Google voice. Now you can use it to check your SMS messages, as well as the ability to check your voicemail as well.

Eyepet and the Age of Augmented Reality

While I was at PAX, Sony Playstation had an amazing demonstration of a new game for their new EyeToy camera accessory. The game was simply known as EyePet, and it was pretty much the coolest thing that I saw all that day.

Eyepet allows the user to play with a virtual pet that will only appear on the screen. The eyepet is simply a lovable furry creature that is often found in most “pet” games. What makes it interesting is how the player interacts with the pet.

The player holds up a plastic rectangle the size of a piece of paper, and it has a paw print in the center of it. This serves as sort of an odd sort of controller to this game that really thinks outside the box. With this controller, I was able to wash the virtual pet by moving the rectangular controller to change the angle of spraying. As you can see from the video above, that rectangle comes in handy for a lot of other fun things like an x-ray. You can read more about the EyePet here.

Tech News for the Day, Thursday, September 10

After the experience from Apple and other big things that happened yesterday, I have very little to report.

If you are interested in a set of Gaming headphones, you might want to check out what Turtle Beach has to offer.

Have you heard about this guy from Nepal that makes solar power from human hair? That isn’t a joke, it is a real story that you can read about here.

You might want to see this concept controller for Microsoft called the Xbox 1080.

Tech News of the Day, Wednesday, September 9

I think that I’ve pretty much done 09-09-09 to death, and I don’t think that anyone is going to top Apple today.

However, there is much to talk about.

Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 is one ultra thin beauty. Check it out here.

Like YouTube? So do I. In fact, some of you have seen my amateur vids. Like Blu-ray? I’ve only had some experience with it. You would be interested in Samsung is adding YouTube streaming to their Blu-ray players.

Check out Sony’s Bravia ZX5, a very slim LED-backlit HDTV.

You might want to check out Gunnar Optiks new eyewear, specifically designed for those who hang on computer screens all day.

If you are the one who needs a holster for all your gadgets, you should consider the Grab It Pack.

Although many blogs have tagged the KDDI iida Polaris as a cellphone robot, what it does is really not as impressive.

Tech News for the Day, Tuesday, September 8

Hope you had a good day off, because it’s time for the tech round-up!

For those of you who want a more rugged camera, you might want to look into the Medion Life S47000.

The HTC Touch Pro2 will be available from Sprint, as well as Verizon Wireless.

Speaking of HTC, they plan to release the Tattoo, a smartphone that runs Android.

You know that ugly power strip that you have by your desktop PC? How would you like to replace it with something better, like this concept Power Bridge?

Gamers might like something I saw at PAX called the SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard.

Having trouble losing or leaving gadgets behind? Tag them with the Nio Security system.

Did you hear about the new Touchsmart Printers from HP? Believe it or not, there will be apps for them at the HP Touchsmart App Store.

Totally Free Video Games or Recession, what recession

While I was at PAX, I began to notice a trend in free to play games. If you are not familiar with that concept, it is essentially when companies offer a game that is completely free.

And when I say free, it isn’t like you download the game and it says: “Thank you for downloading the game, please pay $XX to this PayPal address to proceed further.” This is a process in which the user buys the game, and is totally free to play it. It is only certain aspects of the game, which are not required to “beat” the game, are for sale.

For example, if you want your player to wear a new outfit, all you need to do is lay down some real cash instead of “gamer gold”. Also, if you want to skip to a higher level without all the work, you can pay some real cash and get there.

Tech News of the Day, Monday, September 7

Greetings on this Labor Day, I hope you are enjoying your day off, assuming that you get one. (I know I usually don’t.)

Thought you might enjoy a few tech updates.

I’ll start with the Sansa Clip +. It’s just like the Sansa Clip, which plays music from an SD cards full of music rather than messing with iTunes and other downloading things. Check it out here if you want more info.

Those of you who are in the market for a new GPS device might want to consider the Magellan RoadMate 1700 GPS.

Sony is turning up the head on 3D with a promise to bring 3D content to the Bravia, PS3, and the PSP. Check it out, here, baby. The 3D trend is currently smokin’ hot!

Samsung has recently announced their X520 and X420 CULV laptops.

NEC is bringing back the standard-aspect with the MultiSync EA109M LCD monitors.

Sanyo is improving the Xacti series with the DXM-CG11 that supports Eye-Fi. Not bad!

Monopoly is putting out yet another version of their game that uses Google Maps.

I always like reporting on some new concept. This Bluetooth Concept phone is quite a hoot. You should check it out for the Lord of the Rings style poem alone.

Remember that glove that I showed you on my PAX photo gallery? Here is the article about it.

Tech News of the Day, Friday, September 4

pax-09Sorry we don’t have much today.

Right now, I am reporting from the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA. PAX is a video game convention where the gaming companies show their latest games, and let you play them, if you’re willing to wait in line. I’ve got video footage of that, but it won’t post until tomorrow. So just wait for a treat.

In the meantime, check out what I’ve got for today with these three posts:

I’m not certain radio, as we once knew it, is dead yet. You remember that box where you had to turn your dial to a station that didn’t always play clearly? Surely the Internet radio is much better than that, and Logitech has responded to the consumer’s needs with the Logitech Squeezebox Radio and Logitech Squeezebox Touch.

I think we can assume we are now in the age of the touchscreen as Microsoft is discontinuing all of the past Zunes accept the Zune HD. Whoa, isn’t this kind of sudden?

Thought I’d through this last one in just for fun. It is a Digital Picture Frame that is motion-activated. Every time someone steps in front of it, snow begins to fall. Yes, I thought that was really interesting too, but I’m not certain whether or not it is practical. You be the judge.

Tech News of the Day, Thursday, September 3

Tomorrow, I’m going to be covering the Penny Arcade Expo, and I’ll have lots to say about that, believe you me.

Until then, here’s some things you might want to hear about.

NFL really doesn’t like Twitter! Actually, they are just banning Twitter before, during, and after the games. Oh no, will churches be next? Seriously, just read the article. I’m not going to put a Christian spin on it.

Have you heard that SpongeBob Squarepants is 10 years old? If you have kids, you might now. Now SpongeBob has been around before they were. I found some interesting watches by Nooka that celebrate his 10th birthday, not the way you think, either.

Have you ever wanted an alarm clock that looks like a traffic light? In all honesty, neither did I. However, it is worth getting a look, because if this won’t get you up, I don’t know what will.

Get a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, a camera that is so well-made that it comes in two parts.

For those of you who like Nokia’s XpressMusic, then you might want to check out the X6 and the X3.

Ever wanted a huge 85-inch 1080p plasma display? Yeah, me too. However, I don’t have $30,000 to give to Panasonic.

For those that like the DJing, you might want to check out the DJ Mouse MP3 Mixer.

LG is working on a 15-inch OLED HDTV.

Web Browser on the Wii, for free!

Wii_Internet_Channel_01_610x360Sometimes I get up in the morning and discover something that is just plain sweet. Today, it was the discovery that a Web browser is now available for the Nintendo Wii, for nothing.

This wasn’t the first time that Nintendo offered this application, but it suddenly pulled it in 2007 and said: “You want it, you pay 500 Wiipoints for it”. Now it is free, and it works, and you can read about how to do it here.

Tech News of the Day, Wednesday, September 2

Lot of cool stuff here today! Check it out:

If you like those racing games for the PS3, PS2, and PC, then you might be interested in the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel.

The DSLR world is going to be changed with the Olympus E-600, set to appear on the market come November. Later this month, it will see the unveiling of the Samsung WB5000.

Casio is up to their old tricks and new ones with two new point and shoots, the EX-Z280 and EX-Z33.

I’m pretty excited about Lexmark’s eight new All-in-one printers. This has some interesting features like web-connectivity, low-cost ink, and some even have touchscreens that connect to the web!

Spracht, a company known for Bluetooth Accessories, has created the Aura BluNote, a wireless speaker for Bluetooth devices.

Have you ever heard of the YikeBike? The YikeBike is a bike that I like-like. Enough Dr. Seuss copying, but it does look like the Cat and the Hat’s new ride.

Forget 666, 09-09-09 is where it’s at!

Three years ago, a new version of The Omen was released on June 6, 2006. It’s 06-06-06, get it? Yeah, I’ve probably had way too much 666 on the brain with these posts, but can you blame me? Much of the Christian fear of technology can be narrowed down to this three-digit number.

Tech News of the Day, Tuesday, September 1st

Let’s start this month off right now, shall we?

Attention all World of Warcraft fans! Yeah, you know who I’m talking about. Your pastor wants to know what you’re doing with all your free time! Tell him or her that you are starting WOW evangelism. Just kidding. However, I am not kidding about Creative’s new World of Warcraft wireless gaming headphones.

For those who are always breaking their thumb drives, you should probably invest in the Transcend JetFlash V70. Its got a rubberized coating and cap.

If you’re the type that is willing to go against the tide and forget about the iPod majority, then you might want to look into the Samsung YP-R1.

For those who are into iPods, you might want to check out the iHat. It’s a warm-weather brimless hat with iPod speakers inside, and is also compatible with anything that has a headphone jack.

Cyclists out there might want to rush out and get the Garmin Edge 500, a bike console with GPS and other things. It can even monitor your heart rate to see how many calories that you’ve burned!

Like the Wii Fit? Yes, I have been known to play it from time to time. Time to up my fitness game with the Wii Fit Plus!
