Griffin Technology’s Simplifi

griffin_simplifiHere is a gadget for all those who need an iPod dock, a card reader, and two extra USB ports by their computer. This is the Simpifi, and it is designed to simplify your life! Yes, that is a deliberately poor pun, but I had a chance to try it out, and it works really well. You can read an extended review here.

I’ll start with this weird Roca Waterdrop Shower Room that can give you a 3D touchscreen as you shower.

This one is not a concept device. The PrintBrush allows the user to print a document by swiping it on paper or cloth. You have to see it to believe it.

Some of you may not have ever heard of the Tapster, and you may never see it, either. This device has been abandoned by Philips, as it cannot work.

Iraqi military invests in detectors that probably don’t work

by_default_2009-11-04_at_9.05.19_AMThe ADE 651 is a device that the Iraqi military has invested a lot in. We’re talking about a purchase order of 1,500 individual devices that cost about $16,500 to $60,000 each. These devices can detect bombs, guns, drugs, and human bodies from up to a kilometer away.

Sound too good to be true? According to the U.S. military, it is! Head of the National Explosive Engineering Sciences Security Center at Sandia Labs, Dale Murray, says that he “tested several devices in this category, and none have ever performed better than random chance”.

The company ATSC, which makes the ADE 651, has refused to talk to the New York Times about this, which is not a good sign.
