Our Review of the iKlip Grip Pro from IK Multimedia

iklip-grip-pro-3I have reviewed IK Multimedia products before, and I will have to say they make some very interesting products for iDevices. This particular iKlip Grip Pro is one of the most unique, as it can do a lot of things.

At this point, I feel that I have to create a new category for what this product does. I’ll just say what the website says:

iKlip Grip Pro is the new large-grip, compact multifunctional iPhone and camera stand with an integrated detachable Bluetooth shutter control that is really 4 accessories in one: super secure tabletop tripod, large-grip video handle, monopod handle and standard tripod adapter. iKlip Grip Pro can securely hold any iPhone with or without a case, and features a standard mounting system for connecting small mobile video cameras like GoPro®, compact digital cameras and stand-mount audio field recorders.

Normally, I don’t put a lot of stuff in blockquote, so I’ll go into the four accessories one at a time. You can see that there is a grip that is ergonomic, and you can attach a Bluetooth smartphone shutter remote with a click. This allows you to put your iPhone on a stick.

iklip-grip-pro-2So how do you mount your iPhone on this thing? Well, you need to use this thing that allows you to screw it on with a spring-loaded clip. I am told that this will hold any type of iPhone, but could it hold any other type of smartphone? Seriously, I don’t know.

Once your iPhone is mounted, you can take photos and videos, and, as you can see, in this photo to the left, you can extend this thing up to 62 centimeters for a super selfie stick. It locks in place, and you can also pivot the iPhone at the end of the stick in a 90 degree angle adjustment with 360 degree rotation capability.

By the way, this is a good time to talk about how it can not only hold the iPhone spring-loaded clip, it has that standard mounting system for connecting GoPro or other small mobile video cameras, not to mention other cameras as well.

iklip-grip-pro-1Okay, now it is time to discuss its next ability. That particular ergonomic stick can actually fold out into three places, which makes it into a tripod.

So, if you want to take some pictures of yourself (or something else), you can use this tripod to get the perfect shot. The only problem is that it took me a while to figure out how to get that tripod to separate. Seriously, it requires extending the selfie stick completely, and then you can spread the legs apart. You know, I cannot stand how that sounds, and I’m just going to forget about it.

Anyway, if you want to get in on this cool tool, then you can head to the IK Multimedia site and lay down $59.99 for the iKlip Grip Pro.

M-EDGE Part 1: 17-inch Bolt Backpack with Built-in Battery and 8000 mAh Power Bank

m-edge-1It has been quite a while since I have reviewed any M-EDGE products. Today, I am going to talk about two products that can be used to charge things.

The first is the 17-inch Bolt Backpack that has a built-in battery. This is a type of product that I have seen before. I’ll go ahead and start by talking about the battery. It is a 6000 mAh type that fits in the backpack (in a special pocket) and can then be taken out and charged separately. The battery gives up to 40 hours of battery life for a smartphone or 10 hours on the tablet.

What is really interesting is how you can recharge your device. There is a plug-in on the strap, which makes it really convenient. Most of these charging backpacks that I have encountered have their battery in the backpack, and you have to awkwardly connect your device to it. Here, it is very simple.

The Bolt backpack is made for 17-inch laptops. I’m not certain what material is made of, but it sure feels smooth. I am told that there is 1075 cu of storage space, and it has two big pockets right on the front, made for accessories. The actually backpack part of the backpack (the one that holds the laptop) is cushioned.

If the M-EDGE 17 Bolt Backpack sounds like something that you might use, it can be purchased at the M-EDGE store for about $99.99.

m-edge-3Okay, now here is a time to talk about another M-EDGE product that everyone probably has, a mobile battery. This is not a 6000 mAh battery like the Bolt, but this one has 8000 mAh.

This one is designed to charge anything with a micro USB or Lightning cable. It tucks away in battery, and it is sufficient for charging a phone for an additional 50 hours (that’s 16 hours on most tablets).

By the way, there is an automatic energy-saving feature that shuts off the battery after 15 seconds in standby mode. It also protects the device and battery from over-charging. There is also four indicator lights which are a standard for these mobile batteries.

You can get the M-EDGE 8000 mAh Power Bank for about $29.99 on the M-EDGE site in black, lime, or brown.

The BACtrack Trace Pro

bactrack-trace-proOkay, at the risk of sounding too much like an after-school special, I will have to say that we are heading into the holiday season, which will create a lot of trips to the bar, which will create the toxic by-product of drunk drivers. Every once in a while, there comes some device that can test a user’s Blood Alcohol Level, and BACtrack makes a lot of them.

The BACtrack Trace Pro (or simply Trace) is a police-grade sensor that is apparently used by the police. I realize that this sounds redundant, but if law enforcement and hospitals trust it, then a regular user can trust it too. Just to let you know, it meets the requirements for a breath alcohol screening device.

There is a one touch operation, which is perfect for intoxicated people. You can get your results in seconds, and there is an easy-to-read display in bright LCD blue. You need to blow for 5 seconds, and the response time is about 3 seconds. It has Xtend Fuel Cell Sensor technology, and six mouthpieces for optimal breath capture.

You should be able to purchase the BACtrack Trace Pro on the BACtrack site for about $99.99, and it is good for 1,500 tests on 2 AA batteries. By the way, the batteries are included, so this BACtrack is really a good deal. In fact, this is one small investment that could save a lot of life, so you should check this out.

Audio-Technica AT-LP60-BT Fully Automatic Wireless Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable

audio-technica-turntableIt’s time to talk vinyl. Yes, this is one of those formats that you just have to be in to, and a lot of of people are. Audio-Technica occasionally makes a lot of products for vinyl, and we had the chance to try out the AT-LP60WH-BT.

I suppose what gives the AT-LP60WH-BT its unique power is the fact that it is wireless, thanks to the help of some Bluetooth connectivity. So if you want to hook up this Audio-Technica AT-LP60-BT to a Bluetooth speaker, you can do that with about eight different pairs of speakers, in fact. By the way, you can connect it to wired speakers if you really want to.

Then there is the ease in play. For example, you can just push a start button to play a record and then stop button to turn off the record. Wow, that has got to be the easiest way to play a record since…honestly, I don’t know what. Then again, Audio-Technica has had a lot of experience with working on record players, because they had to do something before making all of those wireless earbuds, right?

The AT-LP60-BT has a Dual Magnet cartridge with a replaceable stylus, and it can play both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records with an adapter.

If you are wanting to play some of those old records of yours, you can get the AT-LP60-BT on the Audio-Technica site for about $149.00.

Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB)

porter-cableThe other day, I was doing a little house project of hanging Christmas lights, and I was attempting to screw a…screw into my porch. Unfortunately, I could only get the screw to go so far before it just locked up on me. I was using the Black and Decker SMARTECH 20V MAX Lithium Drill/Driver for that job. At the risk of sounding like Tim Allen, I needed something with more power (grunt grunt grunt) which is why I will recommend the Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB).

Just to let you know, Porter Cable’s parent company is Stanley Black and Decker. The 20V Max 1/2-inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill enabled me to screw in that screw that I mentioned before, and I believe it is the lack of brush that does it. Yeah, I don’t know what the lack of brush had to do with anything. Clearly, I am not a power tools man.

From what I can tell, the brushless motor provides 50 percent more runtime. The motor itself has a 370 MWO of power duty with a transmission with 1,800 MAX RPM. I’m not certain how much work you can get out of a single charge, because honestly, I’m not going sit there and just press the trigger for even a few long minutes.

You should be able to purchase the Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB), you can get it places like Amazon for about $149.99. The price includes two 20 V Lithium batteries, a charger, and the drill driver itself. It is quite a good holiday gift if you have someone who is really into power tools and such.

Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones

audio-technica-quietpoint-1I have had a terrific time reviewing Audio-Technica products before, and there are a lot of them out there. This particular ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones has a lot going for it.

I have said before that wireless products like these are probably going out of style due to the new age of the wireless earbuds, but the ATH-ANC40BT have a very different design to them. You might be able to tell from the picture that they are the type that fit around your neck, but the controls are at your shoulders. The microphone is able to pick up ambient noise and tune it out like a noise eraser, so I am told.

The purpose of the controls are to have in-line mic controls for operating hands-free in answering and ending calls. By the way, these particular In-Ear headphones can pair up to eight Bluetooth enabled deices, and you can shift from one device to the other. By the way, there is a detachable 3.9 foot (1.2 meter) cable for a wired connection with an 3.5 mm stereo mini-plug.

As for the sound, they are able to distract background noise up to ninety percent, and it has 13.5 mm drivers. If you have any doubt about how great the sound is, it has aptX sound-improvement technology.

You should be able to pick up the ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones on the Audio-Technica website for about $129.99.

Olloclip Core Lens Set for the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus

olloclip-1It has been a long time since I have reviewed a good Olloclip product, and I would love to say they are the best of their type. Seriously, I am not certain if any company makes such great lenses for smartphones, particularly iPhones. I was pretty glad to review their latest product for the iPhone 7/7 Plus with the Olloclip Core Lens Set.

Most of the time, the Olloclip products are made for specific sizes of iPhones, but the Core Lens Set is made for both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus at the same time. So no matter what one you have, you can use it.

If you aren’t familiar with Olloclip products, their latest models have been able to snap on the top of the iPhone, and then you have improved camera action. In this case, the Core Lens Set has a lot of lenses for it. One of them is a Super-Wide with over 120 field-of-view, and so you can capture a lot of width with your shots. Another is the Macro 15 X with 15 X magnification, and you can attach a Fisheye with a spherical effect.

What is interesting is how you can insert these lenses with a spring-loaded snap-in, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their Connect Lens system is patented. It is unique, but it is so unique that you might see it on some other product. Best of all, you can mount a lens and then flip it to the lens on the other side. It is highly convenient.

olloclip-2What is also convenient is how the Olloclip has a necklace mount and a clip as well. This pendant stand can be opened up and then used as a pocket-sized tripod, which is just even more cool! If you don’t believe me, check it on your right!

In short, this is one of the greatest lens holders for an iPhone that there is! You should be able to purchase it on the Olloclip site for $99.99.

STM Part 2: Dux iPad Pro Case

stm-dux-1In addition to reviewing the STM bag that I reviewed the other day, I figure that it was now a time to review another STM product. This one is the Dux case for the iPad Pro.

The Dux rugged case is made to just snap right on the iPad Pro, and it not only protects the device but has a place to hold the Pencil. I’m talking about that cool accessory that Apple just released, but I just checked, and it will hold a regular pencil too. By the way, this particular iPad accessory is made to work with Apple’s Smart Cover as well as the Smart keyboard.

It is a rugged case, and it only protects one side (the back), but that’s good enough for US military standards. The material is described on the STM website as translucent, but if they are referring to any part not the edge, it looks more transparent than anything.

So yes, the STM Dux iPad Pro case is just what you need for some protection, and it is available for the iPad Pro 12.9 and the 9.7 inch versions for $59.95 on the STM site in black only.

PDP, Part 2, for Xbox One: Titanfall 2 Wired Marauder SRS Headset, Wired Controller, Backpack, and Talon Media Remote

pdp-3Yesterday, I discussed two headsets for the PS4, one wired and one not wired. Today, I’m going to give the Xbox One a chance, and I will start with a headset.

Specifically, a Titanfall 2 headset. I would imagine that the game has been doing pretty well since the end of last month, and so it makes sense that there are all kinds of accessories with that theme from this very popular gaming franchise.

This headset has 40 mm Neodymium dynamic haptic audio drivers, as well as the obligatory flexible boom mic. Like the LVL 5 Plus for the PS4, it has very easy to access controls at the ear cup. Speaking of ear cups, these are quite comfortable and the headband is adjustable as well.

By the way, it has the PDP trademark lights, and look at the Titanfall paint job. The Titanfall 2 Marauder SRS Headset for the Xbox One is available for $69.99 on the PDP site.

pdp-4Now this is another Titanfall 2 related product with a controller. It is a wired controller, but it features a detachable cable. By the way, it is also good for the PC as well.

You will notice that wonderful military camo color paint job, but it is more than just the new coat of paint. It has a soft-touch finish as well as some responsive analog sticks. You can also get a gaming advantage with up to 6 different actions. By the way, you can adjust the game and chat audio levels without interruption.

Let’s see, what else does it have? Well, it has the dual rumble motors and impulse triggers, not to mention a 3.5 mm headset jack. But enough about that, doesn’t it look sexy?

Yeah, you know that you want to put this in your hands. You can purchase it on the PDP site for about $59.99.

pdp-5This last Titanfall related product is the Licensed OGIO Backpack, and I have to say that it is not necessarily for hardcore Titanfall fans only. This one is not just by PDP, but in some kind of partnership with OGIO, who makes some really great backpacks.

Most backpacks designed for laptops usually do 15-inch ones, but this one is good for 17-inch laptops, and the padding will keep not only your computer safe, but you can slip a tablet in there as well. Yes, a lot of backpacks have this, and this is just the first zippered area. The second zippered-off area is good to stuff quite a few things in.

Then there are two zippered pockets on the outside, and they can store a lot of pens, calculators, as well as accessories to your laptop and tablet. Hey, you got to put those charging cords and other things somewhere.

Yes, you could just get an ordinary laptop backpack for that, and there are a lot to choose from. However, does your backpack have Velcro patches from Titanfall 2? I’m just going to say no.

Now, I couldn’t find the Titanfall backpack on either the PDP or OGIO site, but I was able to find it on Amazon for $90.22.

pdp-6This last product is not an official Titanfall product like the others, but I had a chance to review this remote control for the Xbox One, and I would say that the Talon Media Remote is worth owning.

Considering that Xbox allows for a lot of control for video content, it is actually much better to have a remote control. I know that there are times when the Xbox controller can get bumped and then your video skips…a lot. You might as well have better control of your streaming video, Blu-ray, or whatever you are watching.

The best part about this is that no setup is required, and it comes with the 2 AAA batteries that you need. By the way, you can control the channel and volume of the TV with this, and it has a soft rubber texture. It also has some great motion-activated backlit buttons.

So yes, there are a lot of great features, and it can be purchased on the PDP site for $19.99.

STM Part 1: The Haven 15-inch Laptop Backpack

stm-haven-black-front-angleI’ve recently reviewed STM products last summer as they introduced a backpack with a battery in it with the Drifter. What attracted me to reviewing this Haven backpack for 15-inch laptops product is that I was told that it was good for travel and allows devices to stay suspended inside.

Part of it is the slingtech protection. It has a whole lot of space for a laptop, and the same place has a pocket for a tablet. Then it has a whole different pocket available for books and stuff, as well as an an outer and inner pocket for cables and such. There is even a place for a water bottle or something like it.

One thing that I noticed about the Haven is there are holes in it that are presumably designed to pass through headphone wires. The Haven is definitely designed to be a backpack for the information age, and since practically everyone has a laptop, that is a good place.

If you are looking for a good gift for someone who travels a lot, the I would recommend the STM Haven laptop backpack. It is available on the STM site for $99.95 in black, frost gray, moroccan blue, and steel.
