Nomad Base Station Hub Edition Review

Charging hubs are good for families with multiple phones and devices that need a place to rejuvenate. This product that I’m about to review charges up to four devices at once. It’s from Nomad- a company we’ve reviewed several products for lately.

What is the Nomad Base Station Hub?

This charging station has a padded leather surface to place up to two phones with Qi capability. There are 3 internal charging coils underneath the padded surface that will deliver a 10W charge. In the back, there are two ports- one USB-A and one USB-C PD with an 18 W output capacity. That means you can charge your MacBook, but maybe not as fast as the original MacBook charger.

The LED lights on the front glow amber while your devices charge, and turn white when charging is finished. The station senses ambient light, and will dim at night.  There is one LED indicator per coil.

What’s in the Box?

  • The Nomad Base Station Hub
  • The Base Station AC wall adapter
  • International EU & UK adapters

Final Thoughts

In order to wirelessly charge two phones at once, it takes some adjustment to get them both in just the right spot. There’s more info on the Nomad website on that, and also about other things you need to know. Their instruction book is not included in the box. You’ll find that on-line. I think it’s a good product if you have multiple devices that need to be charged. It does cost $99.95, and currently the product is on back order, but not for long.

Review of Mophie Charge Stream Power Station, Travel Kit, and Pad+

Almost a year ago we did a review of the Mophie Wireless Charging Base.  This is similar to one of the Mophie products we’ll review in this post. We’ll review some possible Christmas gifts for those in need of charging products.

Mophie Charge Stream Pad+

Looking for a fast way to charge your QI enabled phones? This wireless charging base will do it quickly with up to 10W of power. That’s 2.5W more than the one we reviewed last year. It’s 3.82 inches wide and 0.46 inches high, so it’s great for travelling. Included is a cable and wall adapter. The rubberized pad means it won’t slide around. It is $59.95 for this product- which is what the previous version cost at this time last year.

Mophie Charge Stream Travel Kit

This travel pack comes with the charge stream pad mini for you to charge wirelessly while on the go. The travel pack holds the included stream pad mini along with a 2.4A wall adapter, 2.4A car adapter, and a 4.9 ft USB-A to micro-USB cable. This great pack for all your travel charging needs is only $49.95.

Mophie Charge Stream Powerstation Wireless

Last, but not least, we have this Powerstation Wireless that lets you wirelessly charge your Qi-enabled phones. But that’s not all! You can also charge another device at the same time using the USB-A port. Did we mention that you can do this wirelessly? This is like a battery pack, but it can charge your Qi-enabled devices without a wire attached if you desire.

This has a 6,040 mAh powerbank. That’s enough to charge an iPhone X a little more than two times. The LED lights on the side will tell you how much of a battery-life you have on this Powerstation. When you need to recharge the Powerstation, you can do it quickly through the dedicated USB-C port.

It’s thicker than some power packs, but still shorter than most cell phones; compact and lightweight. If this sounds like the device for you, it is $79.95 on the Mophie site.

Christmas is in 52 days (or maybe less when you read this), so I hope this gives you more ideas for Christmas gifts.

RapidX X4 Home Super Compact 4-Port Charger

The Geek Church has had an opportunity to review RapidX products in the past. The product we’re reviewing today from RapidX is a 4-port charger for your home and office.

The X4 charger is basically a station where you can charge all your products in one place. It has 3 USB- A ports, and 1 type-C port. The power adapter converts down the 110V from the power source. This will send only 14 volts to the charger. You still get the full charging speed, but it will provide a better, safer charge than other charging stations that run the 110+ Volts directly to the charging devices.

When you purchase the $39.99 device, you are getting the choice of a black or white alloy finished device. A portable stand that can be mounted to different surfaces like the wall or desk will hold the charger in place. It also has a six foot long cord so you can run it anywhere. The small size (4 inches by 0.87 inches) also has a benefit over desk charging ports that are less expensive.

If this is something you need in your life, visit the RapidX website.

Review of Nomad Products for Your Phone

Nomad is a company that we’ve had quite a bit of experience with. It’s been almost a year since we’ve reviewed Nomad products. They are a company that builds for those “seeking adventure.” We have three different products that we’re reviewing for you today that are ruggedly made for the adventure seekers.

Nomad’s Clear Folio for Samsung S9

This clear protective case has a real, quality leather case crafted by Horween. The leather has the distinct aroma you would expect a leather product to have. The inside of the leather cover has slots to hold six cards, and one for cash. Who needs a wallet anymore, when you can hold it all with your phone? The clear, polycarbonate material has a slim design, and wraps around your phone to keep it well-protected. It has a 6 foot drop protection.

If you want to purchase this case, it’s $49.95 on the Nomad site.

The Nomad Wireless Stand

Need a stand to wirelessly charge your phone? This one can do it in two positions- standing up, or flat on a surface. It has a non-slip rubber base for added stability, and charges at a 7.5W.  The aluminum kickstand tucks right under the product when charging your device on a flat surface.

This product also has a leather surface, and can charge all iPhones and Android devices that have wireless charging capabilities.

We think that this is a quality product, and it can be purchased on the website for $59.95.

Nomad’s USB-C Cable

This high-quality cable that was sent to us is 3 feet long, and has several features that make it extra rugged. It’s flex-tested to meet military standards of 4K. The 100 W output will ensure rapid charging. The outer layer is 500D ultra-rugged nylon. There is a moisture barrier that is 2x thick to protect the 2x RF shield for fast sync, and the 4x Polyamide central core. A rugged person could go through a lot of charging cords, but this one should be extremely durable to last a long time. This sturdy cord is a good buy at $39.95

A New Review of myCharge Products: Portable Power Outlet and PowerGame for the Nintendo Switch

We have had the opportunity to review many myCharge products in the past. The last one we reviewed around Christmas time was this car battery charger. MyCharge is a company that creates all kinds of different chargers, and today we will review two different products from this company.

The myCharge Portable Power Outlet

We reviewed a similar item last year, but this one has even more capacity. At 20,000 mAh, this is the largest charging hub by myCharge, and has the highest output at 65 watts.  It boasts the ability to charge a 34-inch LED television for up to four hours.

Right out of the box, you’ll get a pre-charged device, so you can start charging your own stuff right away. There are a few different ways to charge things. The AC power plug in allows you to plug in devices that use AC adapters. On the back of the portable power outlet are two USB-A ports, and one USB C port, allowing you to charge several devices at once- as shown here:

The handy LED panel will show you the status of the power outlet, including the battery level, and if the AC plug in is turned on or off.

This item weighs a little over a pound, and is great for taking on camping trips or tossing in your carry-on for power on long trips. If this sounds like a must-have for you, head over to myCharge’s website and purchase it for $179.99.

MyCharge PowerGame for Nintendo Switch

MyCharge doesn’t just charge phones, tablets, and laptops. They’ve also spread out to other devices. If you have a Nintendo Switch, and need a little extra portable juice for your gaming, this product is for you.

The lightweight (0.4 lb) power pack will provide an extra 10 hours of gaming with a mAh of 7000. It charges via USB cable, which is included. It’s easy to pop in your Nintendo Switch, and is very self-explanatory. The handy led lights on the side will give you an idea of how much extra juice you have left.

There’s not much else to say about this one, but if you are ready to game for a long time, this product is one we recommend. You can buy it for $49.99 on the myCharge site.

Thanks to myCharge for providing these two products for review purposes free of charge. No other compensation has been provided for our fair and unbiased review. Photo credits due to myCharge.

Anker PowerWave 7.5 Stand for Quick Wireless Charging

Here we go with another product review from the company that is popular in charging of mobile devices. I recently reviewed a different Anker wireless charger, and  Anker has given us another great product on the market that will charge multiple types of phones quickly and conveniently. This is the Anker PowerWave 7.5 Stand.

What’s Inside

When you open up your box, you’ll find the items in the image above- the 7.5 stand, a USB to micro USB 3.0 Quick Charge cable, and the 3.0 Quick Charge wall adapter. This adapter is what I was looking for in the last wireless charger we were given, as it truly brings speed to your charge.

What’s to Like About PowerWave 7.5 Stand

The design of the stand puts your charging device at an angle for easy viewing- whether you want to place your phone vertically or horizontally. This is particularly good for the iPhone X with it’s facial recognition, so you don’t have to pick up your phone to look at the screen. There’s also a PowerWave 7.5 Pad, which might not be as convenient.

The PowerWave 7.5 will work for multiple types of phones that are able to be wirelessly charged. It charges up to 7.5W for Apple devices, and 10W for Samsung. The charging speed is about as fast as the charging cord that comes with Apple phones. A little faster for Samsung devices, though. Still good if you don’t want to be dealing with wires constantly.

The base has an internal cooling fan to prevent overheating which isn’t too loud, but you might hear a slight whirring noise. I think one would have to be extremely sensitive to sounds to be annoyed by it.  It also delivers a powerful current able to charge through cases- even thick ones like OtterBox.

Want to buy the PowerWave?

The price tag for this product is about $49.99, which is a pretty good price for what you get. The Anker page directs you to buy at Amazon.

Thanks to Anker for sending us the product to review for free in exchange for our fair and unbiased review. No other compensation has been given.

Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 and PowerLineII Lightning Cable

We have some more Anker products to review. Seems like we just did review some, but there are many other products from “America’s Leading USB Charging Brand.”

The main product we’ll cover is the Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000.

This small device looks like one of those USB wall chargers, and it is, but it also converts into a portable charger when you are not near a wall outlet. The plug folds inside, and you can carry this small(1.2 x 2.7 x 2.8 in) charger in your pocket and charge a tablet, iPhone, Samsung phone and many more with up to 5,000 mAh capacity. That should charge most phones at least two times before needing to be charged up again. It takes about two and a half hours to charge itself, but while it’s charging you can also charge 2 other devices at the same time, and that can come in handy.

How do you know that your PowerCore Fusion has enough juice? There are little LED blue lights on the side that will give you an idea of how much power you have left.

All-in-all, a good little gadget that sells for $21.49 on the Anker website. You can also get it in three different colors- red, black and white.

The 2nd item we’re reviewing is a PowerLine II- 6 ft lightning cable. There isn’t a whole lot to say about a lightning cable, but this one claims to be the world’s most durable, and that is a big claim when it seems like you have to go through many cords sometimes. It’s strength tested to hold up to 175 lbs, and can handle bends over 12,000 times, so go ahead and swing off your cord if you want to.

This cord is MFi Certified for iPhone X / 8 / 8 Plus/ 7 / 7 Plus / 6 / 6 Plus / 5S, and is actually a decent price for a phone cord- especially given it’s durability. The cord sells for $10.19 on the Anker site. This cord could be color coordinated with the PowerCore Fusion, and you could also get it in blue.

As with most products we review, these two items were sent to us free of charge by Anker, and we give honest and fair reviews in exchange.

A Review of Some Re-fuel by Digipower Products

Re-fuel by Digipower is a company which manufactures items like portable chargers, a lot of GoPro stuff like rechargeable batteries, protectors, and mics. They also make bluetooth speakers, and tripods/monopods, et. al. For this review, we have four different items that we’ll cover- the Powerbiner, the 24 hr Action Pack rechargeable battery for GoPro HERO4, 3+ and 3, another Action Pack rechargeable battery for the GoPro HERO6 and HERO5, and a rechargeable 13,000 mAh PowerBank called Juggernaut.

First off, we’ll review the Powerbiner.

This cool gadget can clip to your backpack when you are hiking, and with 3,000 mAh, it can recharge a phone a couple of times. While this Powerbiner looks like a heavy duty, giant carabiner, it is not meant for rock climbing, rappelling, or any other extreme outdoor activities. It says so on the box (well, on the back in small print).

It doesn’t have much juice included in it when you hook it up- not really ready to go out of the package, but you could juice it up with your own USB to USB-C cable (not included).

A sealed compartment in the rubberized grip contains the USB ports. It doesn’t say if it’s waterproof, but at CES, they do keep these items in a display next to water. I would say maybe water resistant. I wouldn’t risk testing the waterproof capabilities. Usually the packages have an IP rating, but this one doesn’t.

It has short circuit and overcharge protection, which is pretty cool. It can hold up to 132 lbs, so you could use it to hang your backpack from a tree to keep it from bears, or something. Give us your uses for a carabiner in the comments below. If you like it, it retails for $29.99.

Next up, the 24 hr Action Pack rechargeable batter for GoPro Hero4, 3+ and 3. In one charge, you can have up to 24 hours of recording (with a fully charged internal battery on your GoPro). They also have 6 and 12 hr ones which aren’t as big and expensive if you don’t need the extra battery life.

It’s waterproof up to 131 ft, and dirt and dust proof so you can do those high adventure filmings- including in extreme cold and heat from -22F to 122F.

The little LED indicator lights on the side tell you how much battery life you have left with a simple tap or shake. A micro USB cable and USB wall charger is included.

This item runs for $129.99 on the Re-fuel site.

If you have a GoPro HERO6 or HERO5, you can extend your filming time as well with this Action Pack rechargeable battery. This one will allow you to film at 4K for 6 hours straight, at 1080P for 8 hours, and 720P for 9hours.

This one is also waterproof- only up to 33ft, but is also protected from dirt, dust and extreme weather (this one from 0 degrees to 110 Farhenheit) like the aforementioned product.

It has pass through power, so you can use it while it’s charging (though, not underwater). It is $59.99, if you’re willing to spend on this one.

Finally, we have the 13k mAh rechargeable power bank. They call this the Juggernaut. It’s one of the more powerful ones they sell- with the ability to charge devices up to 5 times per charge. It has double USB ports, so you can charge a couple of items at a time on it.

Easy to read LED indicators will let you know about how much juice you have left. It comes with a 1ft long USB to micro USB charging cord. This lightweight portable charger is a great deal at about $59.99 for those on the go.

ChargeHub X3 and X5 Chargers, with Cables and Travel Case!

A few years ago, I was at a convention and I saw a device called a ChargeHub. It is one of the brands of Limitless Innovations, and they also make cool things like the CableHub, some personal cable organizers.

The ChargeHub X3 3 Port USB Charger

I have recently reviewed a very similar product from Nomad with their 3-Port USB Hub. This particular ChargeHub X3 has 2.4 amps per port, unlike the previously mentioned one with 2.1 Amps on one and 1 Amp for each of the others.

So this really can charge three different USB devices quickly. What you do is you plug it into the wall, and then plug it into the Hub itself for 25 watts of total power. It’s pretty much as simple as that, but did you expect anything more complicated?

It definitely belongs on any desk or office, and what is interesting is that it comes in eight colors: Black, White, Red, Blue, Pink, Purple, Orange, and Green. You can even design some special photo of yourself on the free online DesignStudio. You can find it on the ChargeHub site for $39.99.

The ChargeHub X5 5 Port USB Charger

Well, it is pretty obvious what the difference between the X3 and the X5 is: one of them has more USB ports. Not only does the X5 have 5 ports, but it has 40 watts of total power.

Everything else is pretty much the same. Like it has the plug-in as well as the DesignStudio for you to put a picture in. It is also available in the same eight colors. It is available on the ChargeHub site for $49.95

Then there are some great accessories, like this Travel and Storage Case for the ChargeHub. All you need to do is zip it open, and it has 2 dividers, as well as places for the ChargeHub and the accessories. It is available for about $19.99 on the ChargeHub site.

I’ll go ahead and talk about the other accessories that I have to review, the 4-part Micro to USB Value Pack for $23.99. Then there is the USB-C to USB-A Charge Cable, and the Lightning to USB cable for $7.99.
