Nomad Base Station Hub Edition Review

Charging hubs are good for families with multiple phones and devices that need a place to rejuvenate. This product that I’m about to review charges up to four devices at once. It’s from Nomad- a company we’ve reviewed several products for lately.

What is the Nomad Base Station Hub?

This charging station has a padded leather surface to place up to two phones with Qi capability. There are 3 internal charging coils underneath the padded surface that will deliver a 10W charge. In the back, there are two ports- one USB-A and one USB-C PD with an 18 W output capacity. That means you can charge your MacBook, but maybe not as fast as the original MacBook charger.

The LED lights on the front glow amber while your devices charge, and turn white when charging is finished. The station senses ambient light, and will dim at night.  There is one LED indicator per coil.

What’s in the Box?

  • The Nomad Base Station Hub
  • The Base Station AC wall adapter
  • International EU & UK adapters

Final Thoughts

In order to wirelessly charge two phones at once, it takes some adjustment to get them both in just the right spot. There’s more info on the Nomad website on that, and also about other things you need to know. Their instruction book is not included in the box. You’ll find that on-line. I think it’s a good product if you have multiple devices that need to be charged. It does cost $99.95, and currently the product is on back order, but not for long.

Review of Mophie Charge Stream Power Station, Travel Kit, and Pad+

Almost a year ago we did a review of the Mophie Wireless Charging Base.  This is similar to one of the Mophie products we’ll review in this post. We’ll review some possible Christmas gifts for those in need of charging products.

Looking for a fast way to charge your QI enabled phones? This wireless charging base will do it quickly with up to 10W of power. That’s 2.5W more than the one we reviewed last year. It’s 3.82 inches wide and 0.46 inches high, so it’s great for travelling. Included is a cable and wall adapter. The rubberized pad means it won’t slide around. It is $59.95 for this product- which is what the previous version cost at this time last year.

Mophie Charge Stream Travel Kit

This travel pack comes with the charge stream pad mini for you to charge wirelessly while on the go. The travel pack holds the included stream pad mini along with a 2.4A wall adapter, 2.4A car adapter, and a 4.9 ft USB-A to micro-USB cable. This great pack for all your travel charging needs is only $49.95.

Mophie Charge Stream Powerstation Wireless

Last, but not least, we have this Powerstation Wireless that lets you wirelessly charge your Qi-enabled phones. But that’s not all! You can also charge another device at the same time using the USB-A port. Did we mention that you can do this wirelessly? This is like a battery pack, but it can charge your Qi-enabled devices without a wire attached if you desire.

This has a 6,040 mAh powerbank. That’s enough to charge an iPhone X a little more than two times. The LED lights on the side will tell you how much of a battery-life you have on this Powerstation. When you need to recharge the Powerstation, you can do it quickly through the dedicated USB-C port.

It’s thicker than some power packs, but still shorter than most cell phones; compact and lightweight. If this sounds like the device for you, it is $79.95 on the Mophie site.

Christmas is in 52 days (or maybe less when you read this), so I hope this gives you more ideas for Christmas gifts.

Our Review of the Mophie Wireless Charging Base

Oh man, it has been way too long since I reviewed a Mophie product! The last time was the Outride, and this company has been making some great stuff for a long time! Today, it something that I am very familiar with, the Wireless Charging Base.

I’m sure that name should give you a more than adequate description. If you are somehow unfamiliar with a wireless charging platform, they have this Qi technology that allows you to just put your mobile down on it, and suddenly, you can charge your device. You can do it pretty quickly at up to 7.5W.

So, I had the chance to try it out. It says that it is good for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and other Qi-enabled devices, but I tried it out on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8. The S8 worked fine, and it even had a case on it. As for the S7, I found that I had to lay it on the Wireless Charging Base in a certain way to get it to work. What really surprised me is that I was able to wirelessly charge my LG G6. I had no idea that it was capable of that.

So, I guess the moral of this story is if your smartphone isn’t set-up for wireless charging, then it probably actually is. Yeah, I’m just hoping that all smartphones are capable of wireless charging eventually. It used to be that you had to buy something like a Powermat and get some weird contraption for your phone.

As of now, you can purchase the Wireless Charging Base from the Mophie site for about $59.95.
