A Golden Wake from WadjetEye Games

October 10, 2014 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

A Golden WakeI will be honest with you and say that I fully intended to give A Golden Wake a negative review. I’ll explain why once I get the basic description of the game out of the way.

A Golden Wake was created by WadjetGames, makers of the Blackwell Legacy game that I have reviewed in the past. A Golden Wake uses the same type of gameplay with a point-and-click style role playing game story. In this game, you play Alfie Banks, a real estate salesman who is trying to make a name for himself in Miami.

Seriously, you play a real estate salesman. You play a game where you sell real estate, and selling swampland in Florida is actually a crucial part of advancing in this game. You can see why I wasn’t too positive about this game, because I thought this would be more of an adventure.

Golden Wake bannerI mean, look at this banner ad that I saw for it, wouldn’t you think there would be more action? Well, guess what, this game dares to be different. After all, most point-and-click games are not very action-oriented anyway.

A Golden Wake is the first game that I played that feels like a period piece. Most of them either take place in fantasy kingdoms or generic contemporary settings, but this game goes out of its way to create the Roaring Twenties. In fact, the town that this game takes place in, even some of the buildings, are based on real places. The game deserves a plus for that, let me tell you.

I have to admit that I have found the puzzles in this game not too complicated, and it is weird that most of the challenges are about making sales instead of killing enemies or something epic like that. So far, I’ve got through chapter one, and I believe that the mafia and airshows are going to be part of this story, which means that the action is probably ready to kick in.

So am I going to give A Golden Wake a negative review? No way. I just want to let you know what kind of game that you are playing, and how interesting that it actually is. The game goes live on Steam on October 9th, and you should check it out if you want some new Steam action. You can find out more information about it here.
