If you watch the video above, you can see Ann Makosinski, who is only 15 years old and has created a revolutionary flashlight. It is a flashlight that is powered solely by the power of the human hand.
Apparently, Ann realized that human body heat is essentially an untapped energy resource. I mean it took the machines in The Matrix at least until 2099 to figure that out. She figured out that Peltier tiles, devices that create energy when one side is heated while the other side is cooled, can create the bright light. In this case, the heated part is the user’s hand, and the cooling agent is the hollow flashlight itself.
Okay, this is a really great idea, and MaKosinski is a finalist for Google’s science fair. Personally, I think she should win, but I haven’t seen the other 14 finalists. I am sure I am not the only one who is surprised a fifteen-year-old could make this, and I can’t wait to see what this girl does in the future.
