As I mentioned the other day in my report of the Zeus, the 3D printer/scanner, it is clear that we are entering into an age of 3D printing. This particular Occipital Structure Sensor, also a Kickstarter project, is designed to bring the 3D world to the 2D iPad screen.
The Structure Sensor is designed to clip right onto the iPad itself. From there, you can scan a room in 3D, and your iPad will know where all the four walls are. You can also scan an object in 3D, and there are a lot o uses there.
In fact, there are a lot of uses for this in general. Just think about playing games in real-time with a 3-D environment that is all around you. That takes augmented reality to a whole new level, and if anything can start a 3D printing revolution, it is a device that will make it mobile.
As I have said before, you can get this on Kickstarter for a $349 pledge, and it has already reached its $100,000 goal.
