I’ve always wondered what it was like to live in an area where there is no day or night. I remember that Al Pacino had a hard time adjusting to it in the Christopher Nolan film Insomnia, and there was an episode of Star Trek: Voyager where the crew has a hard time adjusting to an area of space that is utterly black without any stars.
Okay, that is enough with the comparisons from movies, but you can tell that I have a point, and a valid one at that. If you want a real life example, look at Rjukan, a Norwegian town in a valley between steep mountains. There is usually not a lot of sun from September and March, until now.
A helicopter had to bring in 183-square-foot mirrors, but they bring natural sunlight to the town square. This sun mirror literally brings light to this community, and that is pretty great. It is better than the sunlight providing Icarus from Die Another Day, and…okay, I really need to start living in reality.
