I have always loved the idea of a hovering ball, and it looks like someone has finally made one. I’m not certain what I would do with a hovering ball, but my Source on this seems to say that it could be a terrific Quidditch game.
Maybe I just like the idea of some ball that can float in air, but the designer, Jun Rekimoto, stated that it is essentially a ball with micro-quadcopter inside. This gives the Hoverball the ability to defy gravity as well as shift directions. This particular ball is remote controlled, but there are plans to give it some A.I. action. Yeah, that is sounding pretty cool.
It’s pretty clear that we are headed into a hovering future, just like the idea of Amazon delivering your packages via drones. Pretty soon, we will have some hovering tech straight out of Star Wars.
