McDonalds to have touchscreens for ordering

December 10, 2014 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

McdonaldsI found this article about how McDonalds could be offering touchscreen menus in their restaurants, and I could not help but wonder: why don’t we have this technology now?

Don’t get me wrong, I go to McDonalds every week, and I have great respect for those who work behind the counter. These people really do work hard, but I’m not certain whether or not that the guy behind the counter is an efficient use of the workforce if users could just touch a screen to find what they are looking for.

This seems to be the plan, which doesn’t mean that the people behind the counter will be out of a job. It means that they can devote more time to the food. Also, just think of how pleasant and faster it will be to go through the drive through without dealing with that awful intercom.

In short, my Source really made me question why fast food has not embraced the information age. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that I can get free Wi-Fi at my McDonalds, but touchscreen menus just feel like a logical thing, honestly. The said part is a quote from Bob Nibeel, a franchise owner at McDonalds, told USA Today when he stated: “most millenials would rather deal with a computer, iPad, iPhone than actually have interaction with another human being”.

Yeah, this is the age that we live in. I don’t think this is a bad thing, it is just a sign of the times. It isn’t that we don’t want people behind the counter anymore, it’s just that if it slows things down too much, why have them there? Wow, that just sounds really cold, but seriously, should we bring back telephone operators to switch lines?
