These days, it seems like everything is connected to your smartphone these days. I suppose that it is only a matter of time before sprinklers had this type of control. I have no idea if the Skydrop is the first to do this, but it won’t be the last.
You might think that the purpose of the Skydrop is to time a way to start and stop your sprinklers. Yes, it can do that, but it uses hyper-local weather data to learn how much water a yard needs. The Skydrop has a program with real-time precipitation, humidity, temperature, wind, solar radiation, slope, and even soil condition.
In short, it is designed to “save money and save the planet”. I am told that it installs in about ten minutes, and I hope I’ll get a chance to do a hands-on review some time.
Now, I had a chance to try this out at CES. There was not any sprinkler system there, but a model of a lawn. The controller is weird has it is this circle that feels like a hollowed-out version of the iPod Classic’s clicker wheel.
You should be able to get the Skydrop Sprinkler Controller for about $299.00 on the Skydrop site.
