Well, after my review of Lego The Hobbit last week, I figured that I should finally review Lego Batman 3. I will have to say that I was pretty pleased with Lego Batman 2, but it has been a while since I played it.

One of the things that Lego Batman was able to do was somehow capture the campy spirit of the original Batman 1966 series and mix it with the more darker Batman: The Animated series. Wow, there really has been many versions of Batman. I mean, there’s two versions of Lego Batman if you count the Batman from The Lego Movie.

In the first Lego Batman game, the player goes up against everyone bad in Gotham, in the typical Lego game fashion. That is, going through levels and obtaining studs for money, 10 MiniKits per level, and Red Bricks for some special abilities. Lego Batman 2 takes Batman to the next level as he goes to Metropolis to help out Superman and the rest of the Justice League. There are many heroes and villains to be had, and there are also so much fun to be had.

In Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, Batman really works with the Justice League to stop an intergalactic plotline with Brainiac and the Green Lantern corps. There is also the other colors of Lanterns, which has been made popular thanks to the popular Green Lantern comic book series.

I will have to say that the game feels lazy because it feels like the same game engine was used as the one for Lego Marvel Super Heroes. In fact, you can play as Alfred the butler who can use his tray like Captain America, going through fire and everything. I get the feeling that these Lego games are easy to make, as there has been a ton of them in the past few decades. I’m sure the real challenge is putting levels in them that are fun and with a lot of special prizes.

There are a lot of fun with these levels, and it really expands on the DC universe. It feels like the writers just wanted to go as campy as possible, and there is even a level based on the 1966 Batman series. By the way, the game has several “Adam West in Peril” which is voiced by the actual man himself. So you can save Adam West, just like you can save Stan Lee in the Lego Marvel Super Heroes game.

In short, the game is fun, but I wonder how long this series can go on. I’ve heard that there is a Lego The Avengers coming soon, along with a Lego Jurassic Park.
