I think that we all know how much GoPro has changed the video world forever, so it stands to reason that there will be imitators. What makes it interesting, not to mention newsworthy, is how Xiaomi’s Yi Action Camera is able to keep up.
The Yi Action Camera has the same features as a GoPro. They are made for built-in Wi-Fi for file transfers and remote control via companion applications. They are also good with battery capacity, and made for on the go situations.
The GoPro Hero can shoot at 5 Megapixel resolution and can record video at 1080p at 30 fps or 720 video at 60 fps. The Yi Action camera can shoot photos at 16 Megapixels or record 1080p video at 60 fps. The Yi Action Camera can also do 155 degrees while the GoPro Hero is capable of a bit bigger at 170 degrees.
Keep in mind, this is the GoPro Hero that we are comparing it to, and right now, the company has the HERO4 which is capable of 4K video. Those cost a pretty penny, and some of the older version of the Hero also cost.
The Yi Action Camera costs about $65, which is about half the price of a GoPro Hero. Now, this is a product that will probably be marketed in Asia, but I see Xiaomi able to make products for all of the world.
