I have reviewed some good games from Phoenix Online Publishing, such as Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock and Gabriel Knight. I will have to say that this will be a negative review for Supreme League of Patriots.
With a name like that, you would think that it would be a very action oriented game with a lot of metahuman fighting. From what I have played, I found it to be quite the opposite. In fact, if I would have to summarize the Supreme League of Patriots with one word, it would be: Slow.
Just to let you know, this game is a point and click, and I love these games, but this one just felt like it dragged on. Part of it is the interface. In the game you play Kyle Keever, who is a superhero wannabee. He has a costume that is supposed to look patriotic, but he washed it incorrectly, so it is all purple now. Now that is pretty funny, but this game seriously over-estimated how funny this concept was.
Kyle is the character that the player works, and you can look and interact with objects like in the usual point-and-click. The problem is every time you do that, you hear not only what Kyle thinks but what his British sidekick Mel has to say. This often leads them to back-and-forth banter that just is not funny, and slows the game down terribly.
Also, I had a difficult time interacting with objects, as it took me way to long to figure out how to remove an SDcard from an ordinary camera. I don’t like it when games make it difficult to do ordinary things.
In short, I would have to recommend a pass on The Supreme League of Patriots. The issue is that I can see what they are going for, as games like the Monkey Island series and Grim Fandango use humor well, but this one just didn’t. I think it had potential, but because superhero parodies have been done to death, this one just can’t work. If you want to see it out for yourself, feel free to go on Steam and give it a shot.
