Nothing Lasts Forever: PlayStation Home and OnLive bite the dust

April 6, 2015 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

playstation-home-screenshotIn 2008, when MMO was a pretty good market, Sony launched PlayStation Home, a virtual world on the PlayStation 3. Now players would be able to meet up in a “Second Life” kind of setting and talk about games and stuff.

Yeah, it didn’t work out, and I have no idea if it was ever the thing. I mean, I’m there are some who thought MySpace would last forever. Sony announced they were killing off PlayStation Home a year ago, so this is just kind of a formality.

On LiveThere is another development from Sony as they have bought the patents for OnLive. If you are not familiar with OnLive, they were supposed to be the latest tech for video games. I actually tried this out, and it was a way for getting games on your TV with a box that could do a lot of games from franchises. I remember playing Batman: Arkham Asylum and Duke Nukem Forever, and I liked the controller that I used. Too bad there were no Nintendo games available.

I am not certain what Sony’s plan is for OnLive, but perhaps it will be bought to the PlayStation 4. Granted, it is possible to buy PlayStation games on the console itself, but you have to store them on the system. If they were available on the cloud, that would be certainly be helpful.
