Our Review of Mech-Action Assault Suit Leynos

July 21, 2016 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

Assault Suit LeynosOkay, here’s an interesting game that I believe will be loved by those that love older games. In fact, Assault Suit Leynos is based on a legendary classic 16-bit series for the Sega Genesis known as Target Earth.

Assault Suit Leynos uses the science fiction convention of a mech. You know those giant robots that humans control on the inside? You can to actually be in one of them as it shambles along into combat.

Assault Suit Leynos is a game that feels like a stand-up arcade game, and it is as difficult as one. There is a little strategy so you can take the hits, and heal up. Oh, there is an interesting thing where you can choose your weapons, and then toggle through it for maximum damage. There are several times that I had to hit the “Continue” button before the 10 second countdown hit zero.

The thing about this game is that you can pick your weapons, and then go through some situation where you are on a planet shooting aliens. There is some backstory with the world being at war, then working it out, then colonizing, and then the aliens come and really screw things up. So, it is a Robotech: Macross situation, and I don’t care if you know what that is a reference to. The levels begin with a lot of Robotech-looking characters speaking in a different language.

Assault Suit Leynos is a very excellent game, and it is available now for the PlayStation 4 for $19.99. There will be a physical boxed edition for September, and a digital PC release too.
