Phones, Fit Bits, and other fitness trackers have been beneficial in keeping track of health and fitness in human beings. Did you know there’s something out there to do the same for your pets? Well, we got one to review, and we get to test it out on our dog, Yuki.

The Whistle Fit is one of the trackers in the Whistle Go series. It’s the most basic of them all, but it’s the one we received to review, so we’ll be talking solely about this device. The Whistle Fit helps to monitor activity levels, resting time, and even scratching and licking. You can see if your pet is getting enough exercise in the day, or is lazy(like our dog).

How it works

When you get your Whistle Fit, you’ll need to charge it using the included USB-A to micro USB cable included. While it’s charging, download the app. To use the app, you will need a subscription. It costs $35.40 a year($2.95 a month). The subscription not only allows you to monitor your dog’s activity, it also allows you to send the info to your vet. There is also the ability to chat with a vet, but we haven’t tried out that feature. Our whole family has been able to access Yuki’s account on the app through our own personal phones.

When the Whistle Fit is charged, it can be attached to the collar via velcro. The little plug will need to go back into the port to help maintain its waterproof function. This makes it a bit awkward to charge, but the battery life lasts approximately 15 days, so you don’t have to charge it as much as a human FitBit. The FitBit connects to the app via Bluetooth.  In the app, you’ll enter all your pet’s data- age, weight, breed, etc. The app even has a food calculator to help you determine how much you should be feeding your pet each day.

Every day you can get a report like this one that shows how long your pet was active for. I’ve realized how much more Yuki needs to exercise. Just like a human Fit Bit, your pet can earn medals for their activities. This is one that just popped up for Yuki. Since we started using Whistle Fit on February 20th, Yuki has traveled 50 miles!

I’ve enjoyed using the Whistle Fit, and would recommend it to pet owners wanting to keep better track of their pet’s health. I would say that three dollars a month isn’t bad for peace of mind. It is more expensive for the products in the line that has GPS, of course. The Whistle Fit is available currently only on the Whistle.com website. It cost $79.95 to buy the tracker itself.
