Our Review of the Overwatch Reaper and Mustang Eyewear from Gunnar Optiks

March 6, 2025 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

Introduction (Does It Do What It Should)

Remember 2009? I know I do, but man, I can’t believe that was 16 years ago. That was the last time that I talked about Gunnar Optiks. I’m glad they are still in business, because I’m very certain that I first saw them at PAX West that year, and it has been quite a while since I reviewed their products. Now, I was fortunate enough to review two pairs of their glasses.

Our Review of the Overwatch Reaper Eyewear by Gunnar Optiks

I have to admit that I don’t really know much about Overwatch, and I had to look up Reaper. My son knows the game, and I think he describes it as “like the Grim Reaper with guns” (you can see that in the video if you like). Imagine if that wolf guy in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish had a pair of these instead of those scythes.

So, I had my son try out these Overwatch Reaper glasses, and he said that he saw nothing but yellow. However, this type of glasses and tinting on the lenses can block blue light, which I’m told is something that you want to do. After all, we are addicted to our screens, so we should have some kind of treatment for it, and this blocks out 100 percent UV.

The Overwatch Reaper has a G-Shield coating so it is anti-reflective and smudge resistant, and it is anti-reflective and smudge resistant. This is high-wrap precision-engineered polymer frame with multi-barrel hinges.

You should be able to purchase this on the Gunnar Optiks site for about $69.

Our Review of the Mustang Eyewear by Gunnar Optiks

Unlike the Reaper one that I just finished talking about, this Mustang is not inspired by a video game. This Mustang is from the Flight Deck Collection, and, according to the website, is a “contemporary twist on the classic Maverick aviator look”. I have to admit that when I tried them on, and saw my reflection, I kind of thought I looked like Tom Cruise’s hotshot pilot character.

This one has a stainless steel frame material, and is a lot thinner than the Overwatch one. It is most certainly sexier, and it has the 100 percent UV, patented lens technology, and the G-Shield lens coating.

Are you interested in these? You can get a pair on the Gunnar Optiks website for $74.

Facts About The Company

In case you haven’t figured out by the company name, this company loves eyewear. Like I said before, I first saw them in 2009, but they were actually founded two decades ago. They were founded on 4 key principles like visual ergonomics, innovation, design, and culture.

What Does This Company Make?

I could not believe what kind of eyewear that they make. I already mentioned Overwatch, but I was surprised at how much involvement they have in the gaming community. I mean they have some pair of glasses devoted to so many things, more than I can name. I full intend to review more of their products in the near future, if they allow it.

Okay, Get To The Unboxing Already!

Maybe I Want It, But Is There Anything Else Like It? Maybe For A Lower Price? Please?

Hmm. I’m really looking here, and I haven’t reviewed much stylish eyewear, honestly. I really don’t even know what to think, other than I want to review more from Gunnar Optiks. I don’t want to look up any competitors for them, but perhaps I should?
