For 40 years, Ohio Art has been marketing a well-known product known as Etch A Sketch. This is one toy that has withstood the test of time, even though most computers have a Paint program that is more advanced and far easier to use.

After all, having two knobs was just a real pain! One goes left and right, and the other goes up and down. If you wanted curvy lines, then you had better make certain that your knob twisting hands are in sync.

I suppose it took long enough, but Ohio Art finally made a knob-less Etch a Sketch. Apparently, it uses a joystick like control for this. This will make it easier to do the mazes and traceable pictures that are downloadable from the Etch A Sketch website.

“Now you can draw lines, loops, curves and curly-Qs with ease!” Still, it doesn’t look like you can erase any line you just made. You have to shake the whole thing to erase, and it will do the whole screen.

It sort of reminds me of a product in my third grade youth known as Skedoodle which was essentially an Etch A Sketch with a a circular screen and joystick control. It wasn’t very good, though.
