We have discussed how 3D printing can be used for all kinds of things like guns and Maker Bot Mixtapes, but here is another service for a “Ladies Clinic” at Japan.
For the price of $1,230 or 100,000 yen, you can get an MRI scan of a fetus and then get a 3D model of it. I have seen a lot of these 3D renderings of fetuses in the womb before, and they certainly make ultrasounds look like 8-bit video games.
You can see the picture what they call the “Shape of an Angel”, and it is a 90 mm x 60 mm x 40 mm resin-encased plastic replica of that child. It even has a jewelry box.
Now, I can see how this could be used by pro-life groups. “See, this life that grows within you is a miracle”. Of course, it costs a lot to make this fetal keepsake. I would imagine that things could change once 3D printing becomes more common.
