What you are seeing here is a prototype for radar that can essentially see through walls. It is underdevelopment by the University College London, and it can detect moving objects as well as people.

Kevin Chetty and Karl Woodbridge are working on this prototype the size of a suitcase with a radio receiver that are composed of two antennae as well as a signal-processing unit. It can apparently see through a one-foot brick wall and get still remain undetected, as it odes not emit radio waves.

It could detect subtle motions like moving of the ribcage during breathing. So you could detect people who are sitting still or standing.

You know what this reminds me of? Robocop. There is a scene just like this in the film where Robocop is fighting crime in Detroit and he is in a hostage situation. Robocop can see through walls and can tell who the bad guy is. Then he punches through a wall and puts the extortionist in a chokehold. “Thank you for your cooperation”.

So, will this be the future? Who knows. I am surprised we aren’t using infrared technology to see through walls in hostage situations like these.
