I think we all know that computer graphics for video games are just getting better, and if we compare and contrast graphics from the 8-bit era with what is going on now, we can’t help but be impressed.
A visual effects man at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), Kim Libreri, has stated that in just ten years, it is going to be hard to tell the difference between reality and computer graphics. I’m not certain what brought this statement about, but part of it is this new LucasArts game that is called Star Wars 1313, which contains photo-realistic graphics.
Okay, I suppose that means that we are going to have some better looking movies. I remember a friend of mine who saw Avatar, and I asked him if the film was live-action or CG. He couldn’t tell me the answer.
Now, since we have already mentioned Star Wars, let’s mention the dark side of this new technology. Imagine looking at a video and not being able to tell whether or not it is reality. Just think of all the “simulations” that will appear on the news that we will accept as fact. Yeah, I’m not feeling too good about that.
You think it is hard to figure out what is going on in the world now? Just wait.
