I’m sure that you are familiar with Google, and how they often put some interesting graphic to commemorate a historic anniversary or something. Apparently, some Christians got pretty upset when Cesar Chavez showed up on Google instead of something Easter related.
I believe that Glenn Beck was one of them, but I don’t consider Glenn Beck an official spokesperson for Christianity any more than Rush Limbaugh or other right-wing radio announcers. Some of them suggested that Cesar Chavez’s appearance might be an April Fool’s joke, but that is kind of an insult to Cesar Chavez, especially on Cesar Chavez day, which is March 31st.
In all honesty, most people don’t know who Cesar Chavez is. There was an episode of The Simpsons where Homer goes on a hunger strike and sees Cesar Chavez in a vision, only it looks like Cesar Romero, the actor that played The Joker on the original Batman series from the 1960s. When Homer asks about his appearance, Cesar states: “because you don’t know what Cesar Chavez looks like”.
I had to look up Cesar Chavez myself, and he did a lot for a lot of people. Sure, Jesus did a lot more, but hey, do you want to see Jesus on Google every day? Is this what Christian people are looking for?
