I think it is interesting to see how realistic video game characters are becoming. Just take a look at Link, Mario, and Samus Aran look almost human. What if there is a way to put yourself in a video game?
This is now possible thanks to Ari Shapiro at the Institute for Creative Technologies at USC. Their system known as Fast Avatar Capture, involves using a Kinect to scan a body at four angles, and you are now in a video game.
Granted, you will only be able to get a realistic character that will look realistic from a distance. You know, like classic platform games. However, the idea of creating a character who wears your clothes, has your hair, your face, is very interesting. Believe it or not, it only took 2 minutes to get this Avatar.
I’m not certain how it will change video games, because the most popular video games are based on franchises. I’m not certain if most gamers want to play themselves.
Not only will this make video games and Second Life more interesting, but think of how it will change avatars on Facebook.
