I feel that we are headed into a direction where gesture recognition is becoming more actively used on places other than the Kinect. I think the future will be a lot of Minority Report kind of gesture recognition, but we won’t need those funky gloves that Tom Cruise wore.
A certain project at the University of Washington known as WiSee is able to make your entire home a place full of gesture recognition. Just imagine being able to wave and be able to turn the volume up on the MP3 player, not to mention control your TV without the remote. You can also turn up the heat and turn off the lights.
Apparently, all this requires is a normal Wi-Fi router. This could change how we live in our home, but I wonder how much talking with our hands could cause a lot of things to happen in your house that didn’t expect.
There is a video after the jump if you want to see it for yourself. I think WiSee has the potential to change the average home, but We’ll See. (Get it? I don’t think I could have ended stronger than that.)
