KeyShot makes CG almost indistinguishable from real life

March 27, 2013 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

marco_photo_vs_render_v2_660pxI get very nervous when I see stuff like this, as my Source tells me one side of this image is real, and the other is CG. The answer is below after the jump.

This image was made with a program known as KeyShot, which is able to make some very interesting images in CG that lack the “sheen” that is visible in most CG images. In fact, the images look so good that some certain companies use them as their images for their catalog. Microsoft used KeyShot on their entire Surface ad campaign.

So the answer to the question of what side is real is…I don’t know. Seriously, my Source doesn’t say, and personally, I think it is scary that most people cannot tell.

Here is something that I really find frightening. If CG images instead of photographs are going to be used, this certainly is able to put true photographers out of business.

I think we all have seen CG in movie visual effects that looks so real, but the mind always knows its real because the eyes do not believe it. Will we ever get to the point where what we see on screen is indiscernible from real life? If so, it is going to be easier to tell a lie. Yeah, I’m going to try hard not to think about that.
