Introduction (Does It Do What It Should)
All right, I’ll do the report of it already! But just one more game on the GiiKER Super Decoder, please! Yeah, I can always tell when I’m reviewing a great game, because I don’t like to pause the game in order to review it.
Now, this is not a game like something for the big 3 (Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation), but this is a handheld game. And it is not a handheld like the DS, PSP, Switch (or Switch 2), or…does Microsoft not have any type of portable thing? Anyway, if you are old enough to remember the early eighties…God, you’re old. Well, maybe older than me, who’s a nice young age of…53?
Anyway, back then there were all kinds of handheld games that didn’t give a crap about graphics, like this one great football game from Mattel which was just a tiny line having to evade other tiny lines. These were games that you couldn’t charge on a USB, because what the heck was that? No, they were battery powered, and it wasn’t like people used a lot of battery chargers back in the early eighties. In the case of the GiiKER Super Decoder, it could very easily work as an app, but it is not designed to be that.
So what is it designed to be? Well, you see in the picture that first line of colored squares? Well, they are not in the correct order. You have to rearrange them so they are in the correct order. See those tiny dots that form a 2 x 2 square to the right of each line of colored dots? Well, this will tell you how many colors are in the correct place, but not where that correct place is.
Does that sound complicated? Well, when I write it out, it sounds nothing but complicated. However, if you actually do it, you quickly learn it. Not only that, you soon figure out the best way to solve puzzles. I have a video to show my thought processes on one level, and dang it, I’m just going to take a break so I can beat one more level.
So far, I have beaten about 20 levels in Advanced Mode. Advanced mode uses Indirect hints, and I didn’t really try the Direct Hints because I thought it would be a little too simple. That, and I had the switch on the side in advanced mode, and I just got used to playing that way.
Yeah, I didn’t demonstrate the Easy Mode in the video, and can you blame me? If you were to ever demonstrate video game, you wouldn’t want to show how easy it is. I also didn’t demonstrate the other game mode, which allows you to break a Code with a specific time limit. I actually just tried that, and this one is four colors, with each one being one of eight colors. I kind of wish I had demonstrated that, because I think I might have said in the video that this is capable of two-player action. I don’t think it is.
In the case of the eight colors, it is a 1 in 40,320 chance, while the four colors are 1 in 24. The thing is, you only have about six or seven guesses.
Now, I have to admit that GiiKER has been plugging this device as a method of curbing screen time, but I have to admit that since this thing is still electronic, I don’t know if this is a good thing. Still, I like it’s old-school feel, and would completely recommend it on the basis of fun alone.
Facts About The Company
This company is pronounced “Geeker”, you know, like the “Geek” in “The Geek Church”. They are dedicated to the development of smart and connected edutainment products. They were founded in 2012, and apparently they developed this product known as the GiCUBE, which is apparently a smart cube (like a Rubik’s Cube). They keep making these very cool products a lot like the Super Decoder.
What Does This Company Make?
As I look on the company’s Shop page, I’m seeing all kinds of products like the Super Slide Puzzle Games, the Tic-Tac-Toe Bolt, the Super Blocks Puzzle Games, the Smart Sudoku, and so many others that I just have to review! Oh yeah, I sure as heck want to do some kind of follow-up to this report, and review these products.
Just the Specs, Man
If you’re the type that needs this info, this section is for you!
I didn’t see anything to report here.
If there is something on this that I didn’t cover, please let me know.
Okay, Get To The Unboxing Already!
Maybe I Want It, But Is There Anything Else Like It? Maybe For A Lower Price? Please?
I have to admit, that I just don’t review much devices like these. I mean, I’ve got some really interesting handheld things, like the Kanoodle. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll let me review some of these other handheld games.
