Some of you might remember my review of The Last Door last week, and how I liked playing these old-school point-and-click adventure games, even if they had graphics like…The Last Door. I found another game on Steam known as Quest for Infamy which has a lot better resolution and gameplay that is just, if even not more, fun.
Quest for Infamy is essentially a point-and-click adventure that combines traditional Sierra gaming with a little Dungeons and Dragons mixed in there. The premise is that you play an adventurer named Roehm who lives in a pretty well-developed kingdom. Like most of these games, you can go into towns, talk to people, do things, not do things, get items, and then use those items to solve puzzles later.
I will admit that I was intending to review this game a little, but I played it a lot. The game really makes you want to solve its puzzles, and move through its storyline. What makes it interesting are the characters are pretty flushed-out, and they are fun to interact with. Each one has a voice, even though audio is optional for this type of game.
In addition to the solving puzzles and interaction, their is an interesting combat aspect to the game. It is turn-based and feels like I’m playing old-school D&D, with all the hits and misses. You can even search the bodies for treasure, and use the money to buy stuff later.
In short, Quest for Infamy is easily one of the most fun adventure games that I have ever played. I highly recommend that you download it now on Steam for $9.99. I’ve got a spoiler for you after the jump, and it may convince you to play.
Okay, I’ve played games where you can play different “classes”. In this game, you can play a Sorcerer, Brigand, or Rogue, but this isn’t something you can select at the beginning like most RPGs. In this game, you choose your class by choosing to do different tasks. However, once you choose your task, you are that class and this changes the course of the game. The main storyline of the game plays out no matter what class.
