Some of you might remember when I mentioned that EA could possibly looking into virtual reality. I have to admit that I didn’t really think much of that, but an announcement by Sony has really changed my tune.
What you are seeing in this photo is Sony’s prototype known as “Project Morpheus”, unveiled at the Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. It was shown off by president of SCE Worldwide Studios, a company that has been working on VR headsets for years.
It’s pretty clear that Project Morpheus is made to work like the Oculus Rift, a device that I have mentioned so many times on this blog, that I really don’t feel like putting a link here. The Morpheus features built-in accelerometers, gyroscopes, and works with the PlayStation camera in order to track head movements and keep the images steady. My Source says that the specs show the images will be in 1080p resolution with a 90 degree field of view, plus new 3D audio technology.
I don’t see any release date for the Project Morpheus, but if I had to guess, it will probably be out before Christmas, with a showing off at this year’s E3. Either this is really going to really be the future of video games, or it will be the next Virtual Boy.
