I like seeing anything that can change the way we do video games, and this Kickstarter project called ARAIG has the potential.
The ARAIG is an acronym for As Real As It Gets, and it is a sort of weird suit of armor that gives you some haptic feedback in about 48 vibration points. So if you get shot in the shoulder in the game, you will feel it, in a shakeable form on your shoulder. These are “stim” reactions to make muscles expand or contract, and they can make you feel like you are even carrying a weight on your shoulder.
So what does that mean? You get hit in the shoulder during the game, and you feel it, on your shoulder. This isn’t about just feeling it on the DualShock anymore. I am not certain if games are that specific as to where you get hit, but they are going to have to change if they want to adapt to the ARIAG, like they changed for the Kinect.
To sweeten the deal, the ARIAG will include a speaker system to make sound emanate from very specific places. This will immerse you in the game even more.
Granted, this is a Kickstarter project looking for about $900,000 in funding, and I hear that they will have ARAIG suits that look like Iron Man, Batman, Master Chief, and more. I can’t wait to see the future of this one, as it looks pretty bright. You can read more about it on the Kickstarter site here.
