I have seen a lot of visors that are set to provide a 3D experience. Go ahead and look up the Myvu (currently out of business) and the Vuzix viewer.
Those aforementioned technologies used two screens to create a 3D effect and a private watching experience. I suppose that Google Glass could change that market, but the Avegant could change everything.
The Avegant doesn’t use dual screens, but it has two million micro mirrors projecting two separate images onto each of the user’s retinas. I am told that the projected image results in WXGA resolution of 1,280 x 768, and it is twice as good as an HMD. I also believe that it will also work if you turn your head and get a weird effect similar to the Oculus Rift.
The good news is the Avegant will be available in Q1 of 2014. I definitely want to see it at CES in January.
