I have never seen one of these Amazon Lockers before, but the big A wanted to put their stations at stores like Staples, Radio Shack, and other major retailers. The purpose would be for customers to order their merchandise there and pick it up at the store instead of missing a delivery from their home.
Yeah, if you aren’t home, you can really miss some things. I am not certain why, but Bloomberg reports that Staples and Radio Shack are removing the lockers from their establishments. It isn’t exactly the end of an era, as it doesn’t look like this really “caught on”.
Staples claimed the Amazon deal “didn’t meet the criteria” that was set up, while RadioShack stated that the lockers “didn’t fit with its strategy.”
Hmmm. Haven’t used one of those blockquotes in quite a while. Anyway, I don’t know how effective this method was, but I am told that 7-Eleven will keep their Amazon lockers.
