You might recognize the video that I pasted to this article, as it was featured on the Super Bowl of this year. It is funny how Radio Shack is sort of associated with the eighties as far as bringing consumers that technology that they wanted. This was before the Internet, digital revolution, and mobile revolution occurred, and gadgets were just neat instead of being a necessary part of our lives.
I’m not sure that the Super Bowl ad helped out any, but Radio Shack has lost $400 million in 2013, and that is more than twice than the $139 million that they lost in 2012. As a result, the company is planning on closing up 1,100 its stores, which is about a fifth of what it there is now.
Clearly, Radio Shack has to go in a different direction to make some serious profit. I’m guessing that they will need to update their Internet presence. as much electronic business is electronic these days. People are ordering their phones over the Internet, and becoming less dependent on brick-and-mortar stores.
