Introduction (Does It Do What It Should)
I have to admit that one of my favorite things to review are toys, but I actually would hesitate to call the Blipblox After Dark a “toy”. It feels like it is marketed as this type of product, and I do feel like I am not in the age bracket that this product is made for.
That being said, I did have a lot of fun reviewing this product, and if you don’t believe me, just watch the video. At this point in my life, I’m not going to just quit my day-job and become some kind of DJ.
If you boil it down, I believe that is what this Blipblox After Dark is. I’m not even certain why it is called “After Dark”, but if this is a toy, and made for little kids, I hope these kids are sleeping after dark, really.
I took it out of the box, and even though I had some issue getting it to work in the first few seconds, it only took a few minutes for me to get my groove on. Now, there are several buttons, and it was slightly confusing, so I just kind of hit a bunch of them and was able to get some things going on.
There is apparently 300 professionally produced built-in melodies, and there are 16 unique tone generators. There is also a multi-mode resonant filter, as well as two envelope generators and two LFOs to add evolving and pulsating sonic texture. There are also 100 plus sampled drum sounds with an adjustable pitch.
In case you haven’t figured this out, I mostly had to copy that from the Blipblox website, because I really didn’t know what I was doing when I was playing with this, and again, you can see the video for that.
At least it was easy to use, and all I needed to do is plug it into the USB-A port on my computer. Oh, there are some batteries included.
I should also say that you can add a keyboard, drum machine, or DAW using a 5-pin MIDI input. There is also a quarter-inch audio output jack as well.
Facts About The Company
As I was looking at the company website, I discovered that the only “About Us” was a link to “About Playtime Engineering”. So I guess this Blipblox After Dark is a toy, really. Anyway, it is in their vision statement to “bring the fun of electronic music and synthesizers to everyone, especially kids”.
What Does This Company Make?
I checked out the Blipblox shop, and it appears to be all synthesizers. I found the Blipblox SK2 on their site, and it looks very similar to the Blipblox After Dark.

Okay, Get To The Unboxing Already!
Maybe I Want It, But Is There Anything Else Like It? Maybe For A Lower Price? Please?
I would have to say that I’ve never really reviewed anything like this. I’m going to have to say that as far as I know, it is unique.
