I believe that I mentioned after CES that everyone is developing a body monitor, smartwatch, and video goggles. Epson has the body monitor and video goggles, and a cool label maker. Today, I’m going to focus on the goggles, or Moverio BT-200.

The BT-200 is a “true binocular display” and it uses a “miniaturized LCD-based projection lens system and optical light guide in each side of the glasses”. This involves see-through overlays of digital content in a 16:9 aspect ratio and 23-degree field of view.

Not only is this good for video content, but for augmented reality apps as well. It has sensors like a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetic compass to enable head-motion tracking for gaming and other hands-free navigation. Then there is a front-facing camera for image and video capture, for marker detection in an AR world.

Other features include built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and streaming of content from DVD players and set-top boxes. There is also a handheld controller unit powered by Android 4.0, Bluetooth 3.0, and a MicroSDHC card slot for 32GB of external memory.

If you are wanting this, there is some good news. It will be available after March 2014 for an MSRP of $699.99. That’s cheaper than Google Glass, and you can find out more information about this product here.
