Introduction (Does It Do What It Should)
Okay, I have to admit, this is my first review of a smart ring, and I have a feeling that it won’t be my last. The Gen 2 is the world’s first ultra-thin smart ring with sleep apnea monitoring, and if you are worried that it won’t fit, they will send you a free sizing kit. I think I showed you a sample of that in my video, but as I think about my video now, I can’t help but think that I left out a lot of things.
I’m going to start with a definition of sleep apnea:”a sleep disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, often lasting for 10 seconds or more. The most common type, obstructive sleep apnea, happens when the throat’s muscles relax and block the airway, leading to loud snoring, gasping, and fragmented sleep, which can cause excessive daytime sleepiness”. Yes, I took that off the the Internet, but if this smart ring can help, then I would love that.
So yes, it is quite something, and it is designed to fit on your finger and give you a whole lot of data. This would include every layer of your sleep like stages, breathing quality, heart activity, temperature, and trends. I’ve heard you can stay aware of your stress score and trends in real time, and I suppose that anything that can help out with dealing with any kind of stress is really good.
Oh, and it can also do vitals, through quiet signals such as heart rate, heart rate variability and blood oxygen. If you can notice interesting changes, you can adjust your routine.
With the Activity tracker, you can see how your body responds and recovers from workouts to simple steps. There is also Women’s Health, which I didn’t really get a chance to try but here’s what I know of it: small temperature shifts can signal where you are in cycle. It learns a woman’s unique rhythm over time and predicts period with very high accuracy.
You can see that the stats are here, and the best part is the multi-health tracking feature requires no subscription.
Okay, so that is really a lot it can do, and I haven’t got into the features yet. You can see that it comes with this ring case which allows for easy charging, and it has 10-12 days worth of battery life, and that case extends it up to 150 days. It weighs in at about 2 grams and is 2 mm thick, and made of an aerospace-grade titanium alloy with medical grade epoxy resin. It is also waterproof, so even though I was worried when I used it in the bathtube for the first time, I didn’t have to worry at all.
Honestly, there is a lot of things that the RingConn Gen 2 can do, and I really think that I have just scratched the service, really. If you want it, it is available on the RingConn site for a price of $299.00.
