I believe that I’ve done a good job explaining why I am not looking forward to the next Star Wars movie. The issue is that the original trilogy is part of my childhood, and as it turns out, I am not alone.

When I was young, I loved having the Star Wars toys, the figures, and the cards. I was in kindergarten when the original 1977 movie came out, and all the other kids had them. This was before playing with Star Wars toys didn’t brand you a geek, and I don’t even think that our stereotype of a geek had been established in science-fiction category.

Heck, science-fiction was hardly a genre in the film industry, because Star Wars took the risk that paid off. Part of it could have been these Topps trading cards. At the time, the trading card company was taking a big risk, because back then, the blockbuster didn’t really exist.

I have to admit that there was something about these still photos, which I have just recently found out from my Source were just publicity stills from the film. In fact, some of these still shots were from deleted scenes.

Now, back then, I had to buy them in 15 cent packs, when my parents would give me money for them. Only occasionally would I ever get a new card. I remember when my sister and I discovered that the back of the card was a puzzle. I’m pretty certain that influenced my new book, and I’ll tell you about that when it comes out.

I never was able to collect them all, and that goes for all three original movies. I have no idea if they had these cards out for the sequels, and it doesn’t even make sense to have trading cards in the age of the Internet.

I have to admit, these cards have a nostalgic feel that I just love, and I heard that the new film will have this style of cards with a sensationalist title and still shot. I wonder if they will have a puzzle as well.
