This seems to be a big topic since this film was released last week, and yes, I will probably cover this on Speculative Fiction Saturday some day. The thing is, I have heard no one praise this film.
So far the film has a 29 percent rating from critics and 71 percent Audience score. Considering that films like Zootopia and Star Wars: The Force Awakens were instant hits, this film clearly didn’t take off like Warner Brothers thought it would.
Most of the complaints about this film is that these characters are not represented fairly. When it comes to Superman, the version played by Henry Cavill seems to be rather dour and moody rather than the optimistic version that Christopher Reeve portrayed back when he wore the cape. Then there is Batman, and it seems to show the Caped Crusader as using guns and being a whole heck of a lot more violent than in the past.
Not only that, the film is really just a set-up for a DC Cinematic Universe that would be on par with what Marvel is doing. Yeah, this is one of those times where a new interpretation is not going to be popular with certain audiences. The issue is that no one seems to just “love” this movie. However, it is possible that future DC movies will actually be better than this.
