Disney has just recently announced a new kind of game appropriately called Disney Infinity, which allows players to create their own virtual universes (or whatever the plural of universe is).

What makes the Disney Infinity platform unique is that it is both an action figure collection, and the action figures can be transmitted virtually within the game itself. Granted, Activision’s Skylanders does that already, but considering that Disney has access to hundreds of characters, why not do something like this?

You can see in the image how three characters can be put on the pad at once, and I believe that each action figure can unlock a different kind of game. I’ve heard that the characters from Pirates of the Caribbean can do a combat game, and Monster’s University characters can do racing.

Disney Infinity won’t arrive until June for pretty much all platforms, which means it will shown off just in time for E3 2013.
