Picture yourself in this situation, you ask someone to take care of your place, but forget to give them the key. I suppose you could mail or FedEx the key to them, or you could send the key via email.
I’m not talking about some new technology where you can instantaneously transport matter via email. That would change everything. I am also not talking about 3D printing, either.
I am talking about Fraunhofer Institute’s Key2Share tech, but how smartphone tech is allowing you to open doors. Key2Share allows use of this tech with smartphones equipped with NFC. The actual email sent from far away would be the digital data and QR code needed to open a door.
My Source says that this tech could be used by hotels to send key info (pun intended) to a smartphone so you wouldn’t even have to deal with the front desk! Just get a text message with the room number, and the hotel can even program the door to open at a certain time.
Well, this tech is far from being here already. Let this be a lesson to you about owning a smartphone. I can easily see this being the future, so be ready for it.
