My New Year’s Resolutions for the Geek Church for 2010

January 1, 2010 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

Since this is the beginning of the new year, it is usually the time where we make promises that we can only hope to keep. Of course, as a Christian and a businessman, I have to keep my promises, right?

Anyway, I would like to make a few years resolutions for this next year. Hit the jump to hear more about CES, new posts, a new science fiction series, a devotional, and a sock puppet!

1) The most obvious improvement is more posts. Most of you have noticed that I usually only get the “Tech News for the Day” out, if that. Some of you have probably noticed that the Tech News for the Day is just a collection of articles that I wrote up for other sites, and you are right! Generally, I am usually so busy with my work on these other sites, The Geek Church is sadly put last on my priorities as I try to write for a living, but I have recently cut down on some other work, and can devote several hours a day to give you, the reader, some current tech content every day.

As part of this commitment to you, I am going to CES next week. CES is a huge trade show in Las Vegas, and many electronics companies will have their new products prominently on display there. I will be there to report on what I can, so check here next week.

2) As you might be aware, the original mission of The Geek Church was to be a Tech and Gadget Blog designed for the Christian crowd. (Not that I didn’t want non-Christians to read it.) Personally, I think I have swayed a tad from that original Christian target audience vision. I’m not saying that I have designed it specifically for the non-Christian crowd, but I think there needs to be some explicitly Christian content.

Since I want the Christians who read this to be edified, I am launching a devotional. Last year, I started a devotional called Irreverent Reverence. The purpose of this devotional was to cut the flowery, Christian-y stuff that you see in most devotionals and talk to people who live on planet Earth. In short, it was a devotional for those who love Christ, but hate Christianity.

Sadly, I stopped posting for Irreverent Reverence last summer, during a time in my life when I had to focus on seriously getting more writing work. I intend restart it, and to post links to Irreverent Reverence here at the Geek Church. If you read Irreverent Reverence with its accompanying Bible Readings, you should

3) This third promise is one that I am really, really excited about. Starting this month, I want to start posting chapters of my science fiction book series right here on The Geek Church. That’s right, I have written a Christian science-fiction book series! I never was able to sell it to any publisher, so I am going to post it here, free for your enjoyment. I should have more on that probably after CES.

4) We are also going to have a lot more fun! On Saturdays, I want to start a regular entry called Sci-Fi Cy Sock’s Review. Cy Sock is a sock puppet who wants to do web casts, and talk about his favorite science fiction films of past and present. It is going to be a blast.

All this, plus more contests!

I’m looking forward to this year, and it is going to be a great one!
