I saw the newKUBE at CES last month, and my first response was: does anyone listen to an MP3 player anymore? After all, most of us have a smartphone with a built-in MP3 player, so why would we want a device devoted to it?
I would have to say that the primary reason for a stand-alone MP3 player is weight. The newKUBE is very small at a 22mm cube with a weight of 18 grams. You will barely notice the extra weight at the end of your headphones.
All songs are played via SD card, and a 32 GB memory card can hold about 8,000 songs in MP3 format. Granted, its battery is only good for 6 hours, and it takes 2 hours to charge.
So even though you might not need something like this, you should think about the young. My daughter, who is ten years old, loves the newKUBE and I had to learn how to create a playlist just for her. I had a fun time explaining the legality of it all, and the cautionary tale of Napster.
Yes, I almost want to get nostalgic about this MP3 Player, and if you want it, go on Amazon and be prepared to lay down $33.90.
