There is a line from the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Paul Rudd says that he doesn’t wear a watch anymore. At first it seems like he doesn’t care about time, but then says that: “my cellphone has a clock on it”.
Yes, everyone’s cell phone has a clock on it, and practically everyone has a cellular phone. I suppose this really brings up the question of watches. I can’t remember when I stopped wearing a watch, but if I had to guess, it would be when I started using a cellular phone. I am guessing that I am not alone.
It would probably take something like what you see above to bring watches back. This particular concept watch is designed from someone known as Alan from the USA. It is apparently inspired by Tron:Legacy and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
What you are seeing is an interesting way of telling time with rings representing 5 minute blocks. I would imagine that is the most complex thing about this, but it looks like a real simple interface.
I can’t help but wonder if this should be the iWatch, but I believe there is already a company that makes bands for the iPod nano that has taken that name. Still, the idea of a watch being a new smartphone interests me, especially with a Bluetooth headset.
Perhaps this is the future of watches.
