I have to admit that I like writing, and Elegy of a Dead World is a game that actually makes the player a writer. I’m not even sure whether or not I would even call Elegy of a Dead World a game, but it is an interesting activity.
In Elegy of a Dead World, the player is this astronaut that is exploring dead worlds. There is no puzzles to be found on this world, nor is there any big mission to be accomplished. Instead, the player stops at certain spots where a quill appears, and you can type in what you observe of this dead world.
Now, sometimes all you do is fill in the blanks, and I believe that they are set up with narratives by Byron and other classic authors. You can set it up to write your own stuff. In fact, I think the point of it is to harness the player’s creativity, and the dead worlds here are a good launching point. I also think it is made for some kind of social media platforms, as it seems as if the game is made so you can share your stories with others.
I was able to try out the game on Steam, and I really like it. It does immerse one in an alien world, but I felt that I wanted to come up with a story, and check it to see if I was “right”. However, the worlds are just giant paintings and we as players have to figure out their own stories for.
