Seeing all of the games that I have tried out since PAX Prime, Poof Vs. the Cursed Kitty is probably the most difficult. I’ll go ahead and start with the premise of the game, where you play a knight who defends a cat who can somehow lay golden eggs.
The game is a lot like Mario Brothers, the one that came out before Super Mario Brothers. Some of you might remember it, because it was pretty hard. At least, I found it was. In Poof, the Cursed Kitty (who is really more blessed as she lays golden eggs) is captured, and you have to stop the enemies who advance on her (or him, I don’t know). These enemies can be stopped by the traditional video game method of jumping on top of them. Another method of killing all the enemies and snatching the golden egg, which can destroy them all on screen.
I think there is a way of creating turrets, but I couldn’t figure it out, honestly. It seems like there are a lot of secret goodies that get unlocked when you acheive certain bonuses, which definitely would make the game a lot more interesting.
The reason why I say that this game is difficult is that jump is the up key. I never did like games that use that, because I would prefer that jump be a button. Also, you have to hold the jump key to jump higher, and you have to do that a lot in this game. I would much prefer a “double-jump”, as I am sort of used to that.
Please don’t take my last paragraph as a negative review of the game. Games that are hard are challenging, which can make them more fun to beat, even with the frustration dial cranked to 10. You should be able to get the game on Steam sometime in November, and I would recommend trying it out. Click here to find out more information.
