I had a chance to try out a new system of Lost and Found recovery known as Finder Codes. Their slogan is “What have you got to lose”, and they are essentially ready-made QR Codes that you can put on your stuff should the worst happen.

I tried out the Home Lost and Found Kit, and the set had about four stickers and two hard tags with QR codes on them. By going to the Finder Codes website, I could enter in a series of eight-digit letters and numbers and registered anything, which was my dog. I had to fill out a form where I actually had to put a reward for it.

I won’t bother telling you what I put in as a reward, but she isn’t lost, and quite cute. Check out her puppy pictures if you don’t believe me.

I scanned her QR code tag with my smartphone, and I got a text message and email alerting me that “it was lost but now it is found”. I then pretended I was someone who didn’t have a smartphone, and entered in the 8-digit code online. It also worked.

Now, you might be wondering why I didn’t purposely lose my dog to see if Finder Codes worked. Do I really need to answer that? It is always good to have some insurance, and you can get a Lost and Found Kit on the main site for Electronics, Travel, Home, Kids, School, Babies, and Pets. The price is about $24.99.

By the way, creating a QR Code for a website is quite easy. I suppose you could create a website and link your stuff with individual websites with QR Codes, or you could just get Finder Codes.
