I have always loved to see the latest developments in augmented reality, and I believe that this game known as Ingress could change the gaming realm of augmented reality.
My Sources says that Ingress is developed by Google, but specifically it is developed by John Hanke and Niantic Labs. The game is designed to be played in real life as you walk the streets in a city or densely populated area. Players walk around to generate a virtual energy known as “Exotic Matter”, and it is readily available at certain locations. You know, like distinct Points of Interest within a location.
From there, many players can go on missions in something that is like a real-life World of Warcraft. Of course, these is no fantasy-like world in this scenario, and the main premise of the game is much like the T.V. show Lost. I am assuming the comparison is because there is some odd science-fiction mystery going on of some sort. Hopefully, it will be better planned that six-season show that didn’t seem planned from the beginning.
Still, this game has me intrigued. Apparently, the player can pick a side like those of “The Enlightened” who embrace the power of Exotic Matter, and “The Resistance” who fights this power.
I have been told that Ingress is already on Google Play, but I just checked, and it looks like they are looking for beta testers. I would love to try it out, but my town is pretty small. I wonder if they would even have a set up for it? Is this planned on being released with Google Glass?
