This statue on Google’s Mountain View campus makes it official. For a while, we thought the next version of Android would be Key Lime Pie, but the K is actually going to stand for Kit Kat. This will be for Android 4.4, not 5.0, and I am guessing that there will be a product tie-in.
I decided to come up with some names for newer versions of Android. I have been following this tradition of versions of Android being named after sweet treats from version 3, Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and finally Jelybean. If the newest shall be Kit Kat, here are some other options after the jump:
Licorice: I don’t think that anyone has the copyright on this treat, like they do with Kit-Kat, but someone needs to get the “L” out. Do you want Life Savers?
M&M’s: Yes! Just picture that ad campaign with those M&M guys talking on their new Android phones. Alternatives could be Milky Way, Milk Duds, Mike and Ikes, and Mars. Since M&M owns Mars, it is a bonus. Could Emenim sing about it?
Nougat: Why not? It is in like every candy bar from 3 Musketeers to the aforementioned Milky Way.
Ovaltine: Seriously, be sure to drink it. I know of no other sweet things that start with O. Except…Oreo? That has potential. Do they still make the Oh Henry bar?
Pop Rocks: Most people are familiar with it, so why shouldn’t it be a version of Android? Just don’t mix it with soda.
Q-bar: Yes, there is no brand of candy called the Q-bar. Whatever candy company can mass-market it first gets the version of Android.
Reese’s: Hershey, better get on board with this one. Make sure Raisinets doesn’t get a hold of this one.
Snickers: Yeah, this really satisfies, and I hope that Android users will be as well. That, or we could go with Skittles and “Taste the Rainbow”.
Twix: Get two Android phones for the price of one! And, as George Costanza has taught us, Twix is the only candy bar with the cookie center. Try and spin that one, Android.
U-No: Hey, you try coming up with a candy treat that starts with a “U”!
Velamints: I couldn’t think of a good “V” candy.
Whatchamacallit: By this time, everyone has forgotten what version of Android they are using anyway, so they will just call it that anyway.
X: I can’t do it, but I only got two more.
York: When I use Android with the York Android System, I get the sensation that there is only one letter left in this naming category.
Zagnut: I have no idea if they even make this candy bar any more.
All right, Android, you are set for at least a decade.
