In the future, will we be wearing our game for a completely immersive experience? I honestly don’t see why not. Yesterday, at CES Unveiled, I saw not one, but two technologies that could change the way we game, if combined.
I’ll start with YEI Technology. This company puts out a suit/controller known as PrioVR, and it is cable of turning one’s body into a controller. Microsoft’s Kinect has been doing this for years, but this allows you to see your body as you interact with it thanks to “an array of high-performance intertial sensors along with a centralized, wearable wireless hub architecture”. In short, a kick from the player will result in a kick in the game, as you can see in the illustration.
“PrioVR may not be out now for users, as it is still in development. Similarly, I saw another piece of gaming technology known as Tobii, which uses eye-tracking technology so that you can essentially look to the left, right, up, and down in a game. You can see in the image below how this can affect one’s game, such as in World of Warcraft.
Just to let you know, it does take a little while to get used to, as one is used to just turning to see something better. I don’t know if you can see this, but there is some dialogue that says: “Oh the pain”. At first, I was feeling that it hurt, and then I just got used to it, honestly. You really have to learn how to think to see all over again, but this will be worth it in the long-run.
I’m not certain when PrioVR will be available, but I am told that SteelSeries wants to integrate with Tobii, and we might see that happen soon. Either way, I like the idea of being able to truly interact with a game.
